Astali Hotel

Astali is in the town of Rethymnon, which lies on the northern coast of the Greek island of Crete. The area is popular with visitors as it's steps from the sandy Rethymnon beach. You can explore the town on foot from here or catch a bus from the nearest stop, which is a short walk away. The hotel has a 24-hour reception and there's Wi-Fi throughout. If you need a soft drink or snack, you can get one at any hour of the day at the hotel bar, along with a selection of cocktails. Rooms have outdoor areas and the décor in the hotel is modern and colourful. The resort of Rethymnon is a favourite with visitors for its family-friendly attractions, including sandy beaches and shallow waters where children can safely paddle and swim. You can visit the market to buy souvenirs or wander the narrow streets to see the traditional architecture. There's an old town to explore, as well as a harbour and a fortress. You can visit natural and historical attractions like the underground caves and Minoan tombs. In the evening, there's also a lively nightlife to enjoy, with lots of restaurants, bars and clubs serving a younger crowd.

Astali is 120m from Rethymnon beach and 150m from the centre of Rethymnon. There's also a supermarket 150m away if you need to pick up snacks for your adventures. You might like to take a day trip to Chania, around 60km away, which has winding, narrow streets to explore and a colourful Venetian harbour that's now home to lots of bars and restaurants. Another day trip option is the archaeological site at the Bronze Age site of Knossos, capital of ancient Crete. Closer to home, you can visit the Venetian fortress in Rethymnon, which is within walking distance of the hotel and offers views over the town and port.

Drinks and snacks are available 24 hours a day from the hotel bar. In the morning, you can head to the buffet restaurant for a continental spread. There are plenty of other places to eat and drink within walking distance of the hotel, so you won't be short of options for lunch and dinner.

If you'd like to get out into nature, you can hike the 16km-long Samaria Gorge, which is around 80km from the hotel.

Room at Astali are all air conditioned. They each have a fridge and a TV, as well as a balcony or terrace.

A very friendly, family run hotel. Very near the sea and old town. Owners could not be more helpful
Nov 2019 |

We have stayed at this hotel for 20 years because it is effectively a 'home from home' environment.

Many of the guestas are like us - serial returners - because the owners' focus on good, personal service - nothing is too much trouble.

Fantastic hotel
Oct 2019 |

We have visited this hotel since the 1990s. It is run by a fabulous family who are so welcoming and informative about the area and the culture. We would never stay anywhere else. No they don’t have a pool but to us that’s a bonus. The hotel is spotless, the food excellent and the people running the hotel are so warm and friendly. The beach is just down the road and the town a short stroll. We have made many friends there over the years and try to meet up when we go there. We feel part of the Astali family. We have visited the hotel both independently and with a travel company.
