Labranda Sandy Beach Resort

Aquis Sandy Beach Resort is a family-friendly beachfront hotel near Agios Georgios on the north west coast of Corfu, one of the Ionian Islands in Greece. It's on a promenade overlooking the Ionian Sea and mountainous landscape. The hotel has three outdoor swimming pools and a water park with slides for kids, and is a short stroll from the centre of Agios Georgios, with local shops, restaurants and bars. The buildings at Aquis Sandy Beach Resort are set in green gardens dotted with palm trees and have light coloured exteriors with traditional terracotta tiled roofs and balconies overlooking the hotel grounds. There's a bar in the lobby, along with Wi-Fi and plenty of places to sit and relax. The hotel also has an onsite shop where you can get holiday essentials, as well as a laundry service. There are three buffet restaurants and nine bars. The bars serve a selection of drinks during the day, including juice, water and soft drinks, alongside local and international alcohol. During your stay at the hotel, you can book a beauty treatment or massage at the onsite spa. Children can join the kids' club or dance at the mini disco. If you're feeling active, you can exercise at the gym or attend a fitness class such as aerobics. If you'd like to explore the island instead, you can use the hotel's car rental service. Other resorts and attractions across the island, including Corfu Town, Kavos and Sidari are all within driving distance of the hotel.

Aquis Sandy Beach Resort is across the promenade from Agios Georgios Beach, which has 5km of sandy shore and holds Blue Flag status for its clean waters. It's a short walk from the centre of Agios Georgios, where you could shop for souvenirs, order a glass of Greek ouzo or dine on freshly caught seafood. The hotel is 12km from Moraitika, on Corfu's eastern coast, with its sand-and-shingle beach, scented pine forest and olive-tree-covered hills. You can hike on trails across the countryside or explore the village, which sits on a hill and is home to Greek tavernas and cafes. If you fancy a night out, you could visit the bars on the main strip. Further afield, it's 30km to Corfu Town, where you can explore the UNESCO-protected Venetian fortress, which has been on the hilltop since the 15th century. You could also wander through the cobbled streets and narrow alleys of the Old Town, where you'll find bars, shops and museums.

The hotel has three buffet restaurants and one with an ‡ la carte menu. You can enjoy Mediterranean and Italian cuisine. There are two snack bars, two main bars, and one in the lobby. One of the bars is open until late. You can also find local restaurants in the resort centre.

The hotel has a children's outdoor playground, indoor games room and a playroom. There's also nightly entertainment including karaoke, Greek dancing and magic shows.

All rooms have a TV with local channels, a safe and an outdoor dining area. Baby cots are available for young families.

Elevator only in some buildings.

This hotel is not a 5* hotel! We arrived to a very busy reception at 10am and were told to leave our bags at the front of the hotel and that our room would not be ready until 3pm, we were not given anywhere to freshen up or get changed and since our swimmers were in the bags we left out the front of the hotel we were stuck in the sun in jeans until then. There was no entertainment on at all other than the worst kids disco and this left the whole hotel with nothing to do as there is nothing within walking distance, people ended up sitting at the beach bar getting very drunk and noisy. Our room was close to the beach bar and none of my party slept all week with the noise. The food was terrible so bad it ended up an ongoing joke with everyone we spoke to within the hotel, everything for kids costs extra like slushies and icecream so my son lived off water as he doesn't drink fizzy juice. Our room was fine as we had one of the new style one but it was very smelly all the time. The pool area has a lot of mouldy build up around the pool that is incredibly slippery myself and lots of other slipped and nothing was done by the staff they just sat and watched people fall over. The wasps didn't bother me as I'm fine with wasps but other guests got very frustrated by them and there is nothing done by the hotel to keep them away.

Dirty & dated
Dec 2020 |

We stayed here as our holiday to turkey was cancelled, the photos looked lovely and reviews weren’t too bad - I wish I had got a refund! Check in was manic which we understood under the circumstances, no one seemed to have a clue what they were doing. When we got our room, it was nothing like the photos on Jet2.com - dull and dated, not bright at all! The bathroom was disgusting and no staff wanted to help! The hotel was being shut down whilst we were there, they didn’t seem to care about the final guests! There was rubbish in the pool vents that was there all week. Tiles missing from the pool. The ‘snack bar’ closed towards the end of the week and so did the pool bars! Most of the time Vodka was out of stock, which only left barcardi - plain gin - ouzo and tequila as your spirit selection! I’ve creams are changed at €3.50 which jet2 do not tell you - they do not come included in your all inclusive package. Fresh orange is charged at €2. There was NO kids buffet, which is one of the reasons we chose this hotel (our youngest has never been abroad before so we wanted a back up in case he didn’t eat the local food). No member of staff wanted to help and trying to get them to tell us when a jet2 rep was available was an impossible task. WiFi was not connecting and nobody seemed to know the password. Was swarming with wasps around the pools and no sign of anything to deter them or capture them! We were made to feel like we were nothing because it was end of season, despite paying over £3500!

None of us recommend this hotel at all!

Disappointing - End of Season Impact & Sad Hotel
Nov 2020 |

It was not made clear to us that our booking would coincide with the end of season for the resort and surrounding coastal town area.

We found that throughout the week, the hotel was beginning to close down its facilities which impacted on our stay. Things like the buffet restaurant and bars being closed down, meant a reduced service and limited selection of food and drinks at times. Sun loungers being actively removed and packed away was not only quite noisy and disruptive but also left us minimal options of somewhere to relax by both the pool and the beach.

We also found there was poor enforcement of any COVID-19 law and regulation once we arrived at the resort. Staff wore PPE at all times which we were glad to see and there were signs and notices present which outlined that masks and keeping a safe distance were required in indoor areas. However there appeared to be no thought put into the location of tables/chairs being within close proximity to eachother, which made it near impossible to maintain a safe distance from others. At no point did we see any of the staff monitoring or enforcing these rules. There were only a small number of guests who wore masks and very little social distancing took place.

Very poor ventilation and air circulation in rooms, leaving them damp. On one occasion a member of cleaning staff left the door to the balcony open and unlocked to provide some air flow which placed the safety of our belongings at risk

The rooms were very noisy and not sound proof at all
