This hotel really fulfilled our expectations as a 2+ category hotel (Aurinkomatkat ranking). We don't usually want to spend lots of money to accommodation, but we are pleased once our minimum criteria are met. And hotel Alkionis did that. Despite of the fact that it was a bit worn out or outdated to some point, it was clean and functional. The staff was friendly, and the breakfast was more than we expected: eggs in some form (scrambled, boiled, fried), bacon or sausages, fresh cucumber & tomatoes, watermelon, honeydew etc. and coffee or tea, of course. Well, the bean sauce served some mornings wasn't really our cup of tea, but otherwise we were happy with the selection. The room and the bathroom were small, but this was no surprise. The balcony was spacious, and the view was nice facing to the east side with a lovely landscape to the nearby mountains. The rooms were cleaned and towels changed every day, the linen once during our 1 week stay. And finally about the pool: there must be some kind of misunderstanding about the pools here, because some people are complaining about it. They must have been confusing it with the pool in the inner court-yard, which is really not for swimming, but merely for decorative purposes. The actual swimming pool, which is located in the back-yard, was clean (and cleaned!), and it was surrounded by neat terrace with sunbeds and some furniture. Although we didn't use it (we prefer the sea and the beach), we saw that it was used everyday, and there seemed to be no complaints or problem with that, what so ever. In general, I can warm-heartedly recommend this hotel to anyone, who doesn't look for luxury but merely clean and tranquil accomodation for his or her holiday. You have to keep in mind, that if you are paying for 2+ stars' accomodation, you cannot expect 4 stars. This hotel definitely meets criteria for even 3 stars.
We stayed for 4 nights, Mon to Fri and had read mixed reviews but we (my mam and I) couldn't fault it for the price we paid! We went half board and the breakfast and dinner was absolutely brilliant, lots of choice and local style dishes, though we certainly aren't fussy eaters but it was really good! The room had free aircon, a nice balcony with a lovely view, a working fridge which was great in the hot weather and a rather small tv which didn't matter to us. Only thing we both agreed that needed upgrading was the bathroom which was in need of a good update and repair but it was perfectly usable and fine. The area can be a little noisy as it is near the road but other than that, the area is fairly quiet and it isn't very busy, bonus! The staff are friendly and helpful and there is a good choice of bars, restaurants and shops around the area. The beach is only 5 minute walk away but the hotel has a lovely swimming pool and we didn't need to fight for sun lounges with towels early on a morning. All in all, a great, relaxing holiday! We will certainly come back!
Bathroom, broken floor tiles surrounding a filthy drain in the floor, shower curtain kept falling down everytime you used it. Also black mould at bottom of the shower curtain. Bedroom, beds so uncomfortable, the pillow was a rough cotton case stuffed with lumps of sponge, we both requested more pillows hoping they would be better, they were same as other pillow.,tv so high up the wall ,you needed to be 7ft tall to reach it.the remote control didnt work, batteries dead i suppose. No telephone in our room, but is advertized as rooms having fones. Air con couldnt use it as it gave us a really bad cough, which after 2 nights of using it,we didnt use again. Would think the air con units filter needed cleaning. Black mould in bottom of wardrobe, behind bathroom floor.
