Iberostar Tainos is a family-friendly hotel by Varadero Beach in Cuba. It's in a quiet location on the Atlantic Ocean coastline. Varadero is one of the largest resorts in the Caribbean, popular for its parks with tropical birds and sandy beach. There are various water sports provided by the hotel for those looking to stay active during their holiday. Iberostar Tainos is decorated with bright splashes of colour. It has a main building surrounded by several two-storey buildings, all set in a garden. There's a main outdoor pool and a smaller, shallow pool where children can play. Activities in the hotel grounds include tennis and a gym, and you can follow your workout with a sauna and a relaxing massage. When you head down to the beach you can try windsurfing, kayaking, catamarans, pedal boats and snorkelling. A buffet restaurant and two a la carte restaurants provide international cuisine, and the range of bars offers choice when it comes to enjoying a drink after dinner. Set away from the main centre of Varadero and Plaza Las Americas shopping mall, Iberostar Tainos is in a peaceful spot and has lots of greenery around the grounds with places to sit and relax.

The hotel is less than 300m from Varadero beach and 11km from the main town centre of Varadero. Varadero itself is a busy tourist hotspot with a popular beach 20km long, widely regarded as one of the best in the Caribbean. Here you can enjoy poolside and water-based activities as well as shopping and dining. Plaza Las Americas is 4.5km away from the hotel. Here, you can stock up on any essentials or spend a day out away from the beach picking up souvenirs. This major shopping complex has both indoor and outdoor spaces, and places to eat and drink.

There are three restaurants, including one buffet and two a la carte. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available at the buffet restaurant, or you can choose to visit the Japanese or the Cuban a la carte restaurants. There are also five bars at the hotel for drinks.

The hotel has plenty of daytime sports activities and evening entertainment. Water sports such as windsurfing, catamaran, kayaking, pedal boat and snorkelling equipment are included.

Rooms at Iberostar Tainos are decorated with bright colours, and are all in the main building. Rooms on the lower floors have small balconies or terraces.

Amazing Holiday
Jan 2021 |

Just returned from a fantastic 2 week stay at Tainos. After a total of 4 Negative Covid Tests (2 work, 1 prior, 1 on arrival) we got the holiday underway!

The staff were brilliant and given the current circumstances globally the hotel was very organised. Organised to the point of even when the British Government decided in an instant that they required a PCR test within a few days prior to our return had this facilitated at the hotel by the medical staff (We didn’t end up needing it).

From the moment we arrived we were greeted by Julio, he helped us with our luggage and was helpful throughout the holiday. The maids cleaned the room (spotless) and water was left everyday.

Sandy and Yudel kept the drinks flowing in the evening. Julio and George kept us stocked around the pool. The staff in the restaurants were great too, we spoke with many of them and enjoyed their company!

Beach was out of this world! Large pool area which was spotless.

It was great to see Elvis, last time I saw this lad was 14 years ago but it seemed like yesterday! The shows were great too. Compared to some other people’s experiences we had a great time and will definitely be returning.

Hasta Pronto Tainos!!!

best trip in my life
Jan 2021 |

after a few years of going to another hotel in varadero we walked on the beach and went in the hotels near by to do a bit of a comparison and we fell in love with this resort's quality and nice beach, so then we went to this one 3 years in a row, like 10 years ago, but this was in the fall time. then we said to start going for new year's eve, so then we started going more and more south until we settled on santiago de cuba. now with the pandemic, not a lot of hotel choices and the southern resorts were all closed, so we were stuck to go to varadero, which is 50-50% chance having of nice weather during this time of year... this hotel was open, it still had good reviews, so this was the evident choice. i had to work during the vacation so it was important to have good internet, so again lucky to have went to varadero: internet worked well but disconnected if not used, so had to reconnect user name and password every hour or so to see if something was up at work (but no complaints at all!). this is my first review on trip advisor and i am doing it because it was so good that i have to acknowledge the wonderful people that made this happen (and we did not have any problems in order to ask someone to help)! first and foremost is the hotel manager Denis who is spanish and speaks spanish, english, german and maybe some other languages, we has newly arrived at the hotel but he worked at another iberostar nearby before for a few years and people knew him: he was present each and every day from at least 8am to 22pm running around, supervising, inspecting absolutely everything, cleaning (he was cleaning tables, picking up garbage, even when talking to the hotel workers and they were not even helping him), giving instructions, welcoming people at the buffet and thanking people at the end of the shows, etc, i am sure the hotel workers hated him and if not, will hate him very soon. but he made everything impecable and put people to work, which is very hard to do with the cuban people! secondly, the kitchen manager, Adria, who was very young and was finishing his stage here in order to become a chef for another iberostar nearby hotel of 5+ stars, he was also running around all day long, even serving people, and was putting his kitchen staff to work, the food was definitely better, more choices and more in quantity than 4 stars and now we know why. i always liked food in cuba because we are european, but this time it was amazing! so although Adria will shortly leave this hotel, Denis will certainly stay (people say this is how he is all the time) so i am sure he will put somebody of the same caliber to manage the kitchen. we also need to take into consideration that this was the first time that cuba opened in the last few months (it was open jan-mar, then closed, then reopened for a few months in summer, then closed again, and just reopened in the last week of december 2020 for the winter holidays), so they had to make a good impression on the tourists so they could go back happy and bring more tourists, but this has been my best vacation ever because of these 2 people. they did not steal the money themselves like in other hotels, although the locals did steal food which i have seen everywhere in cuba, although here is not as flagrant as in other places, but we also need to understand that the situation of the locals is even worse than before because there is no income (they are paid 60% of their salary when the hotel is closed), energy is going up and there is no food to be bought even if you have money (the stores are empty!), and they can't change their tips in cuc because there is no money in the banks... so now everyone is offerring to exchange you money because they need hard currency (usd, cad, pounds, anything)... since our last visit to varadero, many things have changed: the many small old dirty hotels have mostly disappeared, and a few humongous new hotels have emerged, including in downtown they have built the boulevard which is a new place for many stores and bars etc - very nice! however after waiting in line for 30min at the house of chocolate, locals kept cutting me off saying they are all together, so i got tiered of being made a fool of and left - very disappointing for me. looking for bottled carbonated water was very difficult, not at the hotel tiendas, not in the whole down town the new part or the old part, no canned bucanero, really the stores are empty which is very sad! but the hotels do seem to receive everything they need (except the tiendas because these are managed by the government) and the tourists will benefit if and only if the hotel's management will properly do their jobs. so once again, thank you Denis and Adria for making this my best vacation ever, i will definitely come back if the weather is good, at least the premium i pay is well worth it! the only fyi: the rooms, and we paid the extra premium for nicer rooms, fully renovated, but they come with no blankets which i have never seen before, so you need to ask at the reception, but the first night i was freezing... weather was excellent, hotel was at 20% capacity which i actually like, most tourists were european, and local tourists trying to fill the hotel during the peak time (dec 30-jan 1) which happens everywhere. the hotel staff said these cubans did not respect them, imagine us, but again, this happens in all resorts... restaurants were open at the airport when leaving (but archibald is now on the domestic zone, the u bar is in the international zone, and there is a limit now between these zones), all the prices are higher in the domestic zone, we did the covid test arriving at the varadero airport with result next day at 9am, the sunwing guy said if there was a positive covid test we would have been informed a lot faster. coming back, 2 restaurants open at the varadero airport, all prices are now in usd, and everything is super expensive, the cheapest prices are at the end of the airports, and then the long 1h wait at yul airport for the new covid procedures (although looking at how many people we were arriving at the same time, 1h was nothing, we were all thinking we would spend the entire night there in line), forget social distancing, but at least if somebody would have been there to coordinate the traffic, we must have been 20k people not knowing where to go, where the line started or ended, pure chaos... at our return in canada the covid test was not mandatory. arriving in cuba they said the covid test would have to be paid (~30 usd i think) starting jan 1st.
