Me and my partner traveled for a weekend and lets say location is perect, near the sea. Room was very old and it was one some parts seen damage from before or water. The indoor pool is very small and a lot of room for extra beds but there were only 8 sets of two: extra beds were inside sauna area but they were also occupied and people didnt move towels or go away 4 hours so me and my boyfriend didnt even use the pools or sauna. Staff is very friendly and nice but this is the only plus of our weekend in this hotel. In the winter everything in the center of umag is closed and you cannot go anywhere, inside hotel there is casino and full of italian people gambling all night so there was again no room to play.
A 5 stars hotel should have everything a guest can imagine...or at least near that.
And if you go out in the evening, you might not find any free places left when you come back.
The hotel doesn't deserve not only 5, but neither 4 stars!
I don't recommend the hotel.
The staff was nice, the food at the restaurant was average, but we stayed just one night so I cannot review the weekly menu. There was a variety of healthier options and fried food, salads, fruit and dessert. For breakfast, some breads were from previous night and dry, the jams were the cheapest ones you can get at the store, full of sugar. But the buffet offered a variety of foods from sausages to veggies, there was a chef making omelets etc. There were flavored waters available and soy milk for vegans and those with allergies. Overall, not a 5star hotel food offer as the products seemed to come from a local discount store. I think the restaurant offer needs to be revised to make it a 5 star.
The room was small but apparently clean, the bathroom was pretty spotless on the contrary what other people wrote. It was probably renewed recently as the leaks between the tiles were not yellow but snow white. There was no moisturizer for the body, which is usually available even in 3 star hotels, nor tissues. Also no sewing kit or cotton pads. These small things all make a difference for the guest who booked a 5 star hotel thinking it is a 5 star. The pillows were a disaster, just a half-empty bag with some polyester filling. Usually 5 star hotels offer a complimentary bottle of water in the room, especially if their wellness is promoted.
If you come here for the spa, I absolutely don't recommend this hotel as the temperatures in the saunas don't reach the prescribed ones at all! The steam room had no oils, it actually stinks like mold. The jacuzzi and the grotto pool were cold, in fact no people went in there. The lady at the spa was really nice explaining that the water should be 34 °C but the heat evaporates because of the whirlpool effects. I've never heard such a thing as in every spa we've been, the jacuzzi was always hot. The big pool was actually warmer than the jacuzzi and the grotto, but still too cold to stay in. I think this hotel has an overall issue with hot water because not even from the showers, including the one in the rooms, a pretty hot water comes out. The temperature is never too hot. The Finnish sauna has a door to the outside from where cold air enters and additionally lowers the temperature. A stone from the oven is used to keep it close but still cold air penetrates inside. After reading plenty of TripAdvisor reviews, I found out that the spa never works properly and guests keep complaining. Also there were no flavored waters to drink in the rest area, just regular water from plastic. The apples offered were looking very bad.
Since the saunas didn't work properly and the pools were cold, our stay was almost ruined but not completely till the second day when arriving at the spa, we are told that the saunas are closed for repair. Repairs that should probably be done at night or early morning hours at a 5 star hotel which promotes its wellness center! We were totally upset as our stay was completely ruined, not even at the reception they knew that the spa was shut down. In fact, Mr. Andrea reminded us that we can spend the whole day at the spa. We talked to the manager Maurizia who promised us a reimbursement, but we needed to talk to our agency first. So we did but after amore than a month there was no reply from the hotel.
Also the lady at the spa was really nice trying to help but, of course, it was not her fault.
At the gym the treadmill stopped suddenly, the display said it was broken. The bike was broken, too, and only level 1 worked. The free weights are up to 20kg and all the machines are automatic, I guess it's out of security reasons.
Also if you visit in winter, make sure there are no soccer teams as they make a lot of noise in the spa and there is no room at all for other guests. They literally fill the spa up like ants in a nest.
This short stay was a real disappointment. I waited a while before posting the review hoping we would get reply from the hotel following our complaint, but unfortunately this did not happen which furtherly demonstrates they had a really bad customer service.
