For me this was a very good hotel, but not a luxury one and not the most relaxing one ( compared to three other 5 star hotels in the area). The best things about it being amazing food and location. There are some points which hotel could improve on.
The reception area is a step in the 80s and does not really make a good first impression. Rooms are fine but not really 5 stars and I don’t think the design of the bathroom area is to everyone’s taste. I did not find the smell and the quality of the toiletries appealing at all.
One of the biggest downsides was the noise around the pool area. The hotel was only ca 20-30% full but the noise around the pool was horrendous. There are two pool areas and one of them could easily be turned into adults only. Also, every single day all the sunbeds on the left side of the pool were turned by the guests to face the ocean only to have them turned back in the evening by the pool guards. While I appreciate the aesthetic aspect of this, this was a real nuisance. A solution could be to alternate the sunbeds to face the pool and the ocean.
The hotel has a spa for which one gets a voucher for a single visit, however there is no free indoor pool, no jacuzzi and no bali beds, which one would expect from a 5 star hotel.
As the hotel was almost empty, they stopped serving lunch buffet and changed this to la carta. No information about this was provided in advance ( in fact no information about this restaurant was given at the time of check in), I only learnt from the waiters that I could order 3 courses. As a result I had to pay an extra bill in the end because some of the dishes I ordered were not on all inclusive. This should have been better communicated.
Being on all incl I also did not like the fact that I had to give my room number every time I ordered a drink. For some reason no one could get it right from the first time regardless of the language I spoke and this always caused confusion ( perhaps because of the names of the buildings). This was probably not just a single case, as I had a big bill with drinks I never ordered at the end of the stay, which fortunately I did not have to pay.
According to my Iberostar status I am entitled to a late check out. I was really surprised that with hotel barely filled I was told to vacate my room at 12, because somebody else was checking in that day. Apart from this being a bad customer experience I find it strange that in these times the hotel would rush to give the same rooms to new guests, once you are out of the door, regardless of all the hygiene measures they say they have implemented. I would personally like to think that on one stayed in my room 3 days prior to my arrival.
The hotel is beautiful, we got an all inclusive booking (which is recommended). Excellent view, amazing location and the food is delicious! The stuff is warm and polite people that they are always there for you! ! Everyone is wearing a mask, there are antiseptic liquids everywhere and the whole experience felt so safe. An extra plus that we appreciated is: Iberostar provides an insurance in case you get sick from COVID while you visiting, that way we felt even safer with the current covid situation. Our whole experience in the Iberostar Anthelia was amazing and I will definitely recommend it!!!
We were moved here due to the Sabilla Adults only being closed. I was a bit apprehensive due to the fact it allowed children but that all disappeared as soon as we walked through the doors!
The reception check in was swift and staff very attentive. Our kids had booked a superior suite sea view as a gift and our cases were swiftly taken to our room.
WOW just WOW the view was amazing with 2 balconies to sit on watching the sun set in the evenings with a nice drink. Spotless huge upstairs and downstairs with a separate terrace with sun beds and hot tub. Pure luxury!
The staff were amazing. They never left you standing very polite and you should be proud as we know some staff were from the other hotels due to them being shut.
The pool was huge, plenty of sun beds, we chose to use the unseated one which didn’t bother us. The staff continuously walked around asking if you wanted anything and were always polite and friendly.
The food here is amazing! So many choices and stations in main buffet, BBQ was great for lunch by the pool and 2 a la carte that we used Portofino and Fine Dining with being there for 10 days, the food and drinks were outstanding!
We were all inclusive, branded spirits grey goose, absolut vodka, bottles of Carona, Heniekin proper branded names and not the usual local. Cocktails ice creams from the pool bar such as Oreo twix etc
The hotel was busy but this was due to other people being moved here due to the pandemic. Even though, no problem with sun beds although towards the end of our hotel it did get busy
Covid rules were fantastic, all staff were on the ball no walking about without a mask on and hand sanitizers everywhere and enforced to use coming into food areas and drink areas.
We used to walk along the front in the morning to Porto Colon harbour and you could walk the other way also. Plenty around the hotel but sadly closed.
We had the curfew but that didn’t bother us as we wee quite happy to retire to our suite and have a drink on the balcony.
The only niggle we had was that you were supposed to have a mini bar. Now I understand this had to be emptied due to the pandemic! You could order drinks to your room from 9 in the morning until 5 in the evening. The first 3 nights we ordered vodka for myself and bottles of Diet Coke and carina for my husband. Apparently the vodka you had to pay for yet I could go to the bar downstairs and get it as part of the all inclusive. I just do not see the logic in this? So make sure you ask what is free when ordering as part of the all inclusive mini bar delivery!
The entertainment we didn’t use as we preferred to just sit in the lobby bar and relax with a couple of bailies after dinner.
This was our first iberostar experience and that an unforgettable Coral anniversary we had that we are looking for this December. Will we try the Sabilla since we missed out? I don’t think we will! We would love to come back again to the Anthelia for our anniversary this year
Hope to see you all again soon!
