Staff nice food not great
Jan 2021 |

We went all inclusive for one night for our honeymoon or mini moon. The receptionists were lovely and explained everything. We changed to a higher room and they said they had some thing special for our honeymoon.

The room was nice, no light in the shower/bath area. The view was great, the walls were paper thin. So we could hear children crying 3 doors down and the movement of the corridor.

The special surprise was some cava - great. Then a plate of 2 bananas 2 apples and 6 grapes dumped on a plate.... I've worked in a lot of hotels and I'm very surprised that with 50 guests they didn't have the time to make it look pretty they obviously don't have the budget to put some chocolates or something but I think they have the time to cut up the fruit and make it look pretty.

The bed was amazing!!! Very big and comfy.

The cleaner next door at 548 at 9 am Sunday was moving furniture, banging and scraping sooo loud! There is no cause for it. She wasn't in a rush she was there for about 30 minutes.

The bar had to close at 10pm cos of curfew which I could understand and they are nice and let you take ur drinks to the room. We tried the mojitos and the dakiri. Mojito was very good!!! The pianist was amazing! So talented.

The resturante..... At dinner there was a lovely manager on who explained everything and the waitresses were very nice. The famara all inclusive wine wasn't that good but that's normal of a house wine.

At breakfast no one explained anything until I spoke to the chef and she explained.

Lunch was the best meal.

The food was bad. The little plates of prawns and mussels etc was a good idea cos you aren't allowed to touch the spoons or pinsers etc but then put more than 2 mussels or 2 prawns on a plate or we have to take like 5 plates. When you do the big chef in the middle shouts at you. Which he did to a spanish man in the morning. It was a genuine mistake. Also there are only 2 chefs one is in the hot place and the other in salads and ice cream. So when one is not there which is often you have to wait for a long while before being served. Maybe they should put a waiter there instead. The paella was nasty.

I normally love breakfast but it was so bad. The potatoes were undercooked. The bacon was crispy or cremated. The juice smoothies were so bitter no one was finishing them. Thank God for the woman doing the hot plate so at least you could have cooked eggs or omelet cos the rest of the breakfast was bad! I just expect the same if not better quality from the hotel if there are only 50 guests.

The lunch was great. The chicken curry amazing and the burgers etc. The desserts were also very good.

The snack bar waitress was lovely and very funny. Unfortunately it was too cold to sit on a sunbed in the morning and the pool was freezing but I think it would be nice in the spring or summer.

Overall very disappointed in the service but we needed the sleep. So sleep and drink I suggest are the best options until lunch.

I think they have done well to stay open during this time that's why I have given 4 stars cos I really think it should be 2 but we are not trying to hurt a business we are trying to help them get better.

Another lovely visit
Jan 2021 |

We stayed at the Costa Calero back in November, not our first time here, and we loved it as usual..The room we request is Pool Side and it's perfect location ( as I have a foot injury )....All the staff are so lovely and welcoming from reception to dining to cleaning staff...The food is also lovely in the buffet..The selection may not be as varied as normal, but that's to be expected during these strange times with Covid...The pool area is the best, so peaceful and plenty of space to relax, where we send most of our days...We enjoy this hotel enough, that we are returning again on January 23rd, next week..We are celebrating anniversary and also a big birthday, you never know, we could be lucky and get a free upgrade to use the Prestige Lounge..Fingers crossed...

See you soon Costa Calero, from Siobhan Grace

Short break
Jan 2021 |

We recently spent 2 nights here to celebrate our anniversary. All questions prior to our arrival were well handled by Yolanda, who also checked us in and out in a friendly, professional manner. We stayed in a Select Suite on the ultra all inclusive plan (well worth the additional cost). The suite was lovely, spacious balcony with good furniture and sea view

All meals were buffet style because of low occupancy, but there was a good choice of items to suit most tastes. The piano bar was a good place to sit and relax before and after dinner. Included in our plan was access to the spa and pools (great heated pool), which was a welcome addition as the outdoor pools were a bit too cold to swim in as the weather wasn’t kind

The hotel was very clean throughout and we would certainly return for another visit
