We stayed at the Costa Calero back in November, not our first time here, and we loved it as usual..The room we request is Pool Side and it's perfect location ( as I have a foot injury )....All the staff are so lovely and welcoming from reception to dining to cleaning staff...The food is also lovely in the buffet..The selection may not be as varied as normal, but that's to be expected during these strange times with Covid...The pool area is the best, so peaceful and plenty of space to relax, where we send most of our days...We enjoy this hotel enough, that we are returning again on January 23rd, next week..We are celebrating anniversary and also a big birthday, you never know, we could be lucky and get a free upgrade to use the Prestige Lounge..Fingers crossed...
See you soon Costa Calero, from Siobhan Grace
We recently spent 2 nights here to celebrate our anniversary. All questions prior to our arrival were well handled by Yolanda, who also checked us in and out in a friendly, professional manner. We stayed in a Select Suite on the ultra all inclusive plan (well worth the additional cost). The suite was lovely, spacious balcony with good furniture and sea view
All meals were buffet style because of low occupancy, but there was a good choice of items to suit most tastes. The piano bar was a good place to sit and relax before and after dinner. Included in our plan was access to the spa and pools (great heated pool), which was a welcome addition as the outdoor pools were a bit too cold to swim in as the weather wasn’t kind
The hotel was very clean throughout and we would certainly return for another visit
During these very strange times we chose to go away for Christmas which is something we have never done before but these were strange times and we were separated from family and friends due to restrictions within the UK so we organised a Covid test and can honestly safe we felt very safe from the off, including the UK airport, the flight with Jet2, our transfer to the hotel and throughout our stay.
We cannot praise the hotel staff highly enough for the care and effort they put in to welcoming all their guests and making sure they were safe throughout the holiday. We had not been abroad at Christmas before so didn't really know what to expect but despite so many different nationalities, everyone was in the Christmas spirit and there were Christmas jumpers, t.shirts, jingley antlers and plenty of Covid Christmas masks on display in the restaurant!
The Costa Calero is a much bigger hotel than we would normally stay at but it was very quiet due to the pandemic but having spoken to other holidaymakers, many of whom had stayed here several times, we discovered that even when the hotel is full, the quality of the service is no less than superb. We had booked one of the Select Double rooms on a Prestige package simply because this was to be our Christmas present! We were not disappointed and the room was lovely and cheerful, quite modern with a balcony overlooking the marina. Most of the balconies are covered but are wonderful if the weather is a bit windy or cloudy. Nice to sit and have a coffee and just admire the view. The bed was extremely comfortable and I had some of the best sleeps whilst we were there! There is a large walk in shower cubicle, separate toilet and then a sink in the dressing area. Mirrors, sockets and hairdryers have been well placed (this is normally one of my bug bears when staying in hotels!) We felt the Prestige package worked well for us on top of the normal All Inclusive package because the Nespresso coffee pods were replenished daily, the mini bar was restocked daily (not that we are alcoholics!) but the 2 mini bottles of Freixenet seemed to require replenishing every day (well it was Christmas!) we also had beautiful miniatures of Clarins shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body creme which smelled divine. The rooms were cleaned to a high standard every day with fresh towels provided and we also had bath robes and slippers.
The Prestige package also allowed us access to a lounge with comfy chairs and sofas, computer facilities, teas, coffees, sandwiches and snacks as well as a full compliment of every type of drink you could wish for. This included premium brands of gin, vodka, rum, whisky, martini, Campari, beers, wines, cava etc and the lounge was kept immaculate.
There are several swimming pools, all kept very clean and although we did not get a chance to use them this time round, we hope to revisit this hotel to make use of ALL the facilities on offer. We had never been to Lanzarote before but fell in love with the island from day one. It has it's very own uniqueness and is wild and rugged and we'd like to see more of it unfortunately for us, the holiday was cut short after 6 days when Jet2 decided to repatriate all their passengers back to the UK so we had to leave on Boxing Day. We were quite upset by this but at least we'd had 6 days and we know we can return once this pandemic is under control. We did at least get to experience the Christmas Day Gala Dinner. We were totally blown away by this. The sheer effort that had gone into the food (just a normal day was awesome to start with!) They catered for everything from vegetarian, vegan, gluten intolerance, children and there was so much choice of fruit and vegetables, salads, soups, main courses and deserts that I don't think we actually needed to eat again until New Year's Day! I know some people have mentioned that the food may not be piping hot but I don't know if they realised there was actually a microwave provided on one of the side areas and we used this a few times to hot our meals up no problem. We are in our 50's and have travelled widely and extensively for more than 30 years and can honestly say this hotel is superb. Again, the Prestige package has an area at breakfast, lunch and dinner for those diners which isn't to say you are any more important than any other guests but you can select different wines from a list (this was all done by scanning QR codes during Covid) and we had some tremendous local wines. They also bring the whole bottle, not just a glass where you are then waiting for someone to come and top you up. This probably meant we drank more than we would normally do but you can leave the bottle if you don't finish it or take it to the room for later. We were not sure which we would need to sign up for first on returning to the UK, Weight Watchers or Alcoholics Anonymous!
The Christmas decorations throughout the hotel were also lovely and gave it a real Christmas atmosphere. Father Christmas made an appearance at lunchtime on Christmas Day and all the children were given a present which was lovely to see.
We did manage to hire a car for 2 days and toured the south and north of the island. Puerto deal Carmen is approximately a 5k walk from Peurto Calero and there is a well worn path so you can't really get lost. The coastline is scenic and dramatic and there were a few restaurants and bars open for food and drinks but you could tell the town was nowhere near as busy as it would normally be at this time of year which is just as sad for the Spanish hospitality industry as it is for the UK. We do hope the economy recovers for everyone because we very much want to visit this lovely island again. We would also not hesitate to recommend the Costa Calero Hotel and very much hope we can stay here again soon.
