We stayed here all inclusive in early March 2020. Half the place was shut down when we got there and other facilities were closed during our stay.
It was advertised as having two buffet restaurants and two speciality restaurants. Only one buffet restaurant was open, meaning long queues and crowding at all meals. The food at breakfast was not too bad, but the lunch and evening offerings were served lukewarm at best and were often inedible. Tables, crockery and cutlery didn’t seem very clean. We ended up eating out most evenings.
The speciality dining was similar. Only one of the advertised restaurants was open, the pizza place, but only on 1 night during our stay. Service in here was reasonable, and at least the food was hot. However, a family eating at the same time allowed their small children ( under 5 yrs old) to go to the salad buffet unattended, using their hands to transfer food to their plate and most of their food ended up on the floor. The staff made no attempt to clean up the floor and the parents didn’t care.
The snack bar had reasonable hot dogs etc, but service was slow, again nothing was hot, and the server sneezed into her gloved hand before picking up the bread rolls. Hello Covid!
The large pool was closed for most of the stay, due to the previous week’s sandstorms. Whilst accepting that this was beyond their control, we were not advised of this by the hotel when we arrived, nor were we advised when it eventually reopened. The adults only pool was the only large pool still open, but the bar was shut.
There were only two bars open in the evening when we got there - the one in the middle of the complex and ‘the dome’, which included the children’s club and the disco. The main bar wasn’t too bad, although it was very sterile and small, with a very poor choice of all inclusive drinks. However, 2 days into the holiday the dome shut and the children’s club was moved into the main bar. The frantic singing and dancing went on for hours, at the same time as having the sports TVs turned up full blast, making it impossible to have a conversation. Again, this drove us to go out in the evenings.
The room was reasonably sized, but the cleaning wasn’t up to standard. We were twice given ‘clean’ towels with visible stains on them. The floors had obviously never seen a mop and were so dirty that we had to put socks on after taking a shower and only take them off as we got into bed.
The ladies toilets next to the main bar had no lock on the door and no hand washing facilities.
Given the news at the time, we didn’t feel safe eating in the resort, due to the lack of hygiene observed. This, combined with the poor quality of the food and the lack of adult bar space resulted in us eating out for most meals except breakfast and cost us a fortune on top of the all inclusive fees already paid. The whole place was run down, poorly managed and definitely not worth the money we paid.
Review delayed due to us both coming down with Covid a week after returning from this holiday.
I am struggling to extract any informato=ion for my upcoming trip to the hotel. All the channels - including WhatsApp, email which suppose to be available are not working.
I found it really dreadful and even we are not in the hotel just yet it feels like neglect. This is my last try before I cancel as I can see someone is taking time to answer to the reviews.
How fast is the internet and are all rooms are in range? Assuming its a free option
THe Alfarooms advertising your facilities and no mention of any extra pay. SPA - I assume all free of charge except the massage and treatments requiring therapist work. If not I would like to know how much you need to pay for the sauna< Turkish bath. The indoor swimming pool is free to use?
I would like to ask for the particular room near the heated swimming pool and with the terrace on the sunny side. Refurbished.
Do you have oven, hob and Kettle in the rooms. Are they satisfactory fo use?
Are you cleaning the balcony floor ( reviews suggest they are not cleaned)
Thank you very much for the answers in advance
I visited the THB Tropical Island hotel with my family and we loved it. We loved the sports facilities, tennis and football. The pools were amazing, with water slides for children and a pool bar. I really loved staying here and recommend it for families. There is even a kids club!
