The hotel is a short drive from the local water park, with its slides, rapids and children's lake.
Occidental Lanzarote Playa is 100m from El Ancla Beach, where you can swim in the shallow waters of a sheltered lagoon. The hotel is 1km from the centre of Costa Teguise with its shops, restaurants and sandy town beach. Stayed in December for a couple of days. The welcome was ok, normally expect a better greeting on arrival. Hotel was quiet for obvious reasons. Room on second floor, and had a great pool and sea view. Nice and modern and clean. Bathroom and shower were excellent.
Food at dinner had plenty of choice, only half the restaurant used. Did take a while to clear tables though. Drinks on All Inclusive were ok. One pool nice and heated for the winter. Just a pleasant stay.
Nicee hotel! Was there 2 weeks ago. It was pretty quiet and empty for the size of the hotel, but covid times ehh, and to be honest we prefer it that way we realised :D
Hotel is lovely, enjoyed the features throughout from the huge bright reception to the rocky terrain outside the rooms and the trees up through the middle of the apartment block opening! We requested a room close to reception and dining areas and was placed in room 9 on the main lobby level, pretty much above the dinner hall, sweet, view mostly over the pool but also partially of the sea, perhaps the higher rooms and ones on the other side of the hotel would have a better view, but we were happy our main request was met rather than view. The pool area was nice anyways and we weren't there to sit and look at the sea from the balcony anyway :)
Room, spacious, goood shower, easy to control, powerful, we flooded the bathroom area a little first use but probably our fault and reception was fast to send someone with more towels to dry up! One thing and probably our only gripe of the hotel as we found, was that the smell in the bathroom (after the business) lingered a while as there was no extractor fan, only a vent with ducting to air out.
Chairs with foot rest on balcony lovely, no ashtrays but provided on request. Had one issue with the tv losing signal one day but again technician quick to come fix and boost signal. Wasnt an issue again. Bed was comfy, but maybe a little to soft for us long term as we are used to much firmer, but had a good weeks sleep for sure!!!
Food, very good indeed, we get all inclusive at these places because we like to eat, a lot, and like variety. And was not disappointed this time, even considering covid cutbacks there was plenty of variety from cold salad/meat section, what I'd call a small fast food area and then a good few main options with sides each lunch and dinner, variety if fish, lotsa pork/chicken/veal, some rabbit and turkey you name it. Nice variety of rices and potatoes through the week, some sushi one day on a theme night, good variety at breakfast and a beautiful fresh honey combe board. Yeah, you can't go wrong. Self serve drinks, no alcohol in breakfast ofc and the coffee machines were turned off in the canteen for lunch and dinner, but literally no worry there is a machine next to bar just across from dining hall!
Well set up for covid if you worry about all that, we don't worry so much but follow the mask rule as requested.
Pool area was clean and tidy, a few pool tables around to use if you ask for a pool que . Public toilets were always clean and fine and all communal areas cleaned daily and in good order. Glass lifts as a nice feature.
A few lovely cats around keeping the place pest free :D we like to find the local hotel dwellers wherever we go and were happy with out little gang by the end of the week :)
Cleaners done a fantastic job when we desired, reception and dining staff all very polite very helpful and overall made you feel welcome! Plenty of parking outside if you have a hire car.
And lastly entertainment, our last trip in tenerife in aug the place had none. We were happy to find this time there was, and it was good! A team of 3, one female two males and they really made an effort to get everyone around involved and entertained. Different activities from fitness classes to mini gold in the day to Bingo nights, some singing and dancing, comedy and competitions in the evening with prizes given throughout the week. Yeah really fun and nice enjoyable stay at occidental lanzarote playa.
Would we recommend, on our experience absolutely!
Well what can we say. Considering the state of the world right now. It was really good to get away to the Lanzarote playa this year. From 14th to 28th December 2020.
Sailed through without any problems. Reception fully explained the position at the hotel considering the current climate and the restrictions that were in place.
No issues at all
We stayed on the ground floor ( floor 0 on same level as reception). Room 13.
Was really good & clean (cleaned daily) and quiet. Didn’t have a great view of the pool but that wasn’t any issue.
The al la carte was closed but open restaurant was accommodating and had a very diverse range of different foods each day. Always replenished and chef always on hand to refill.
Was open from 5-11pm due to island restrictions.
Local beers and spirits.
Again bar staff accommodating and always happy to please and serve.
They didn’t even moan about my rubbish espanol.
Was closed but if you wanted you could get beer and wine from the restaurant.
What more can I say but awesome awesome awesome
The trio of karen Luca and anton did everything they could to entertain the limited numbers and keep our spirits up at Christmas time.
There was enough things for anyone to do and the itinerary changed each day. Enough for kids and adults alike (though my partner is a big kid at heart)
Huge respect to them for always being upbeat and making people happy and smile.
Overall we have to say we that we had a great experience and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves (despite the lockdowns over the island). With very limited guests at the hotel.
Can’t wait to return to Lanzarote playa in 2021.
