Colina Mar

Been coming to Puerto Rico since 2005 and every Christmas for the last 5 years and this has been the poorest quality hotel we have stayed in.

Let's start with the GOOD points...

• Cracking views over Puerto Rico.
• Large Pool
• Hardworking maids
• Great security gate (buzz to enter)

Now onto the NOT SO GOOD points...

• Cockroaches all over and towels placed on the outside of the doors along the floor to stop them getting in the gaps!
• Doors didn't lock (patio) and windows unsafe. Main door would have been easily pushed open.
• Dangerous electrics in rooms. Bare wires showing and loose socket fittings. The plug sockets in our room sparked when anything was plugged into them.
• Damp in the bathroom with mold spores and cracked paint. Ventilation was poor in there too. When I mentioned this to the receptionist, she said open the window. Would have done this but the windows are IN the shower cubicle and OPPOSITE the main walkway of the hotel and the hotel supermarket!
• Pool NOT heated. The staff also began clearing around the pool at around 3pm, using a huge petrol leaf blower and making it clear that we needed to move and clear the area. Music was death by piano most days, very depressing, when we asked for it to be changed we were told No. Cats were also seen entering the pool on an evening!
• Annie, the receptionist was great to begin with and even went out of her way to help when we had to move room when we first checked in because of a broken toilet flush, but as soon as we mentioned things we needed, mainly a refund on All Inclusive due to Jet2 cutting the stay short, her demeanor and mood changed dramatically.
• Food... Oh my goodness! I try anything, I really am not a fussy eater but most nights, we had to eat out, and with most of the restaurants in the locality being closed due to Covid, this was not an easy task! We upgraded to All Inclusive which cost 50 Euro per day for us as a family. Not a bad price but the food was so poor. The first few days we were given a menu, and the food would be cooked to order and warm and we could have what we wanted and it was served to us. Desert was help yourself. As more guests arrived, they decided to change it to buffet style, but served by the chefs who were so rude. I even got told to fill my plate with salad when I asked for more meat! I asked for a large drink and got refused, I was told I could only have a small one, yet other guests were being given large ones!. Food was often cold, lack of choice, and we were told to use the microwave to warm up the food..which included chicken!!! Food was not all cooked fresh and was very repetitive, which could explain why most of us spent a great deal of time sitting on the toilet!!
• Selective Staff... Bar staff were very selective and even moaned that they weren't tipped enough by guests! Spanish guests children were not told off for jumping in the pool, yet our children were. Effort was not applied to all guests in fairness.
• Entertainment was really below par. The animation staff ( just the one) did try his best, but had to get guests to help him read the quiz questions as his translation skills were poor, there was a lack of atmosphere, but we made up for it with friends we have made in previous years.

The area outside the hotel wasn't the best or safest due to the immigrants who have been housed in neighbouring hotels, and we would not have chosen this hotel had our usual one been open. We had no choice but to go out into the local area as otherwise we wouldn't have eaten!

All in all, I will return to Puerto Rico. But I wont return to Colina Mar.

I found d every meal to be really delicious and fresh. The chefs were very kind and helpful.

I was there for Xmas Dinner and I would say the Dinner was the best I've had in years, on top of that the staff really made such an amazing effort and I cannot fault any of it.

The complex is huge, all staff were very friendly and helpful, the hotel was exceptionally clean with everything you need in the hotel room (including a coffee maker)

The pool area is really lovely, the views are stunning with plenty of beds for people to lie on. Tue pool isn't heated but neither is the Sea, so jump in and cool down.

We like basically everything about the hotel. The ocean view from our balcony was spectacular, we had separate bedroom also with view to the ocean. The food is plenty and good quality, it is good that you can dine outside. There is elevator if you cannot be bothered climbing stairs and there is plenty of parking lots on the street. Staff is also friendly except from a lady who seemed to be some kind of a manager.

It is very good value for the money. We will definitely return when the hotel opens again.
