Ok but just not for us

We booked for a week but only stayed 5 nights. The hotel was ok but we did not like the location at all and there wasn’t really much to do that interested us. Best points were an extremely comfortable and large bed, very tasty food, excellent shower, lovely staff especially young Nic on the bar. There were only 6 hangers in our room and on arrival I asked if we could have some more and was told “no”. The next day I asked again and the same man just ignored my request. So the third time I asked someone else and within an hour we had more hangers. A minor problem that I look back on as amusing, but come on, that’s not great customer service. There was a lack of space for clothing and as other reviews have said, we mostly lived out of our suitcases. We made a couple of other requests and they were all fulfilled very quickly. The hotel is on a hill which means it has a lovely open feel to the site, but the walk down the hill to the town is strewn with litter and views of dilapidation and rubbish across the landscape. The town is very busy with traffic and although there is a pleasant pedestrianised walkway along the coast, it is completely lined with restaurants thus spoiling any view of the water, and irritating the passing public with entreaties to come in for a drink. They’re not pushy about it, as in some other places, but it did rather get on my nerves. I can’t really say there was much to look at in the area that was attractive and we were just a bit bored, so we booked a hotel in Heraklion for the last couple of nights and went to some museums and monuments.

Nice early break

This was a quick break to catch a bit of early sunshine. Unfortunately the weather did let us down with varying amount of clouds, but that was the only disappointment. We have travelled extensively to every continent, and stayed at hotels with various star ratings, but the staff at Porto Village upped the rating for us. Fotis, the restaurant manager was a delight. Immaculate, and welcoming us personally each time we entered the restaurant. Costas was also very friendly, and looked after us wonderfully. There were plenty of tables for the guest numbers, but I do believe on one evening when rain prevented sitting outside, there was a queue. Hopefully this will be a rare occurrence, and on that evening we had gone to eat at the local village of Pistapiano, so we're not affected. Nick, the young barman was very efficient, and we were amazed to discover he had only been working there for 10 days, and had never worked in a bar before. He was kept very busy, but managed admirably. Maria managed reception, and also deserves a mention. Nothing was too much trouble. I would agree with other reviewers who have mentioned the steps which would cause problems for those with mobility issues. We had a very relaxing week and met some lovely ladies from Essex whose company we thoroughly enjoyed.

Missing the mark

Arrived at the hotel late April for a weeks stay, Arrived later than anticipated due to delay at pass port control to find that room was still not ready and waited a further 11/2 hours,the room was modern clean but very small with hardly any storage space for clothes so most clothes remained in suitcases. The pool area and pool bar area is very small ,the pool very shallow and not really fit for purpose, there are sun loungers spread around the complex but would imagine not enough during peak season as with the bar area as seating is sparse. The food is not of a good standard and very repetitive again seating will be a problem during peak season as even now we had to wait for a table to be vacated before we could sit for dinner. Not a great selection of drinks at the bar on the all inclusive deal no vodka ,Gin and the cocktails were of a poor selection. If you walk down the hill from the hotel you come to bars shops and restaurants and up the hill which is some 40 mins walk or 8 euros in a taxi there are 3 really quaint villages with bars etc where you can have a decent meal. I would rate this hotel as no more than 3 star , the staff were very friendly and helpful .Wouldn’t advise anyone with mobility issues staying at this complex due to the number of steps and inclines.
