Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

To see some of the most spectacular natural scenery you're ever likely to set eyes on, don't miss the incredible Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area on your holiday to Las Vegas. Although it only takes around 20 minutes to drive to the nature park from the Strip, you'll feel like you're in a different world compared to the bright lights of the city.

Arriving at Red Rock Canyon you'll see amazing red rock formations and a set of high sandstone peaks. If you hire a car, there's a one-way loop road that stretches for over 20 kilometres around the park, taking you past the best of the sights. Make sure you stop at the Keystone Thrust Fault, and see the springs and waterfalls at Ice Box Canyon and Lost Creek. The park's perfect if you love hiking and exploring, with mountain biking and rock climbing being really popular activities.

Make sure you have lots of water with you as the sun gets very hot. When you get hungry, sit down to eat a packed lunch at the Red Spring Picnic Area, as you enjoy your unique setting for lunch. There aren't any facilities in the park after you go past the entrance, where you'll find toilets and a visitor's centre where you can get information and pick up some trail maps.

Stick around at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area to see the rock turn a deeper shade of red as the sun starts to set. Or make the short trip to Mount Charleston for more beautiful scenery. When you head back to the city, go for a sunset dinner at the Stratosphere Tower, or watch some live music at the Fremont Street Experience.
