Nothing "ultra" about the ultra-inclusive package
Reception 1/5: One bellboy. We arrived as 15 people group. They refused to tell us where our room is and there was no map so we got to wait for an hour. One person took our passports, the other made copies and then the first person made more copies... Unorganized... The room 1/5 (or rather the dungeon): We had a standard land view room. The "view" was of a brick wall and the storage shed next to it. Mould in the shower, no shampoo/tooth paste/shaving cream etc... Had to buy everything from the local shops and pay 4-6 euros per product (nice scam :D). Some people had no slippers, others had 5 pairs. No towel cards, had to steal a towel from the SPA and return it for a card (nice work). Fridge didn't work. If you closed the cupboard door where the fridge was, you got a free oven. The door had huge gaps in it so whenever the maintenance staff came to clean in the morning, you got a free wakeup call at 6-7 am. When we went to swap out the room, they dragged us to other rooms with even larger gaps in the door and when I said that I can literally see though the door, the man said that "don't worry, no-one will be looking" :D. The food 2/5: We had a free visit to one of the three À la carte restaurants in our ultra all-inclusive package. Couldn't book a time our entire stay there. The food in the main hall had ~100 options which seemed very nice at the start. Sadly, even if we arrived 30 seconds before the start of dinner service, most of the food was still cold (pasta/potatoes/etc). Most desserts (~90%) were the same recipe but made with different food coloring so the actual variation was rather 15-25 dishes. In general, the food either had 0 salt or 100% spice. No exceptions. The only normal food was from the night restaurant where they made everything on the spot. Pretty much 0 local fruits/vegetables the place is known for. I don't think I saw any pomegranates for my entire week we stayed there. The local food they prepared was tasty and definitely the highlight of our stay but that was locked behind plexiglass and served as 2 potatoes + 2 meatballs per customer :D The drinks 2/5: Unless you tip them 5-10 euros every time you sit down at a bar or specifically ask for a specific alcohol, you get a mystery drink (rum and cola can be whiskey/brandy/whatever and cola. The plastic cups they server from are small and completely wasteful (think: drinking beer from 200 ml cups). I can guarantee there isn't a person on Earth who would stop drinking after one 200 ml cup of beer, meaning you have to run back and forth 18 times an hour (good workout, but I came to rest). No imported beer (unless you want to pay 3 euros per beer and wait for 5 minutes for them to unlock the fridge). No cans/bottles of alcohol whatsoever. The staff 1/5: Night restaurant staff was excellent! We spoke a total of 10 languages within our party but none of them seemed to be enough to get basic things (shaving cream, slippers, towel card, etc). None of them were very pleased to be there or that we were. It would have been a much better experience if the staff would have just let us do all the things ourselves (pour beer, get our own chairs, have a closet/cart on every floor to get towels/etc). Example: I needed a chair at the pool from the stack, the pool boy ran over to help and took it from me. But he didn't speak any of the languages I spoke (Russian, German, English, French) so I gestured that we need a chair there. He looked at me with big eyes, spoke Turkish and after 5 minutes I just left and sat on the ground. Quite a few of the staff were coughing which I dismissed at first until we contracted covid on our 3rd day there. We flew back home with a 39 degree fever... Facilities 3/5: The pools/public places were generally pretty clean. Wifi tends to be pretty spotty but usable (once you get it working). There were plenty of chairs/umbrellas in the beach/by the pool. Surrounding city 2/5: There city has about 3-4 fixed-price stores (Carrefour and Migros) in which prices are reasonable. Everything else is so massively expensive it is not even funny. Some street vendors charge 3 euros for ONE pomegranate. Which is funny since there was a pomegranate tree right next to him. General score 2/5: For an ultra all-inclusive package there was very little "ultra" about it. The hotel is quite old and the level of service/quality of food/drinks is at most 2*. If you do go and stay there do yourself a favour and start tipping early and often, you might get a 3* experience.
Not a 5* hotel
We stayed with family in Crystal Aura in October for 5 nights. The hotel needs desperately a renovation. The room was terribly humid. Furniture and a general impression looks old and tired. There was an awful humidity smell, the bed sheets were damp and uncomfortable to sleep in. We had 3 rooms, so they couldn't move us all to another rooms. The hotel area looks nice, the food was average and varied slightly. Most of the staff was friendly and helpful. If we would had a good room, the experience would have been better. I wouldn't go again.
Not impressed
Customers are 99% Eastern European. Pool side tables and loungers stolen when away for 10 minutes Most food in main restaurant is cold, even food that is supposed to be hot. Only a few, very few, friendly staff... Nice staff include, Ismail, Taner, Memet, Melon lady at pool, Fared (I think that's how to spell ), who is the main pool lounger guy, and main bar man in lobby bar - forgot his name. In particular, the barman, Gökhan, was so miserable that I avoided him at all costs. His attitude is not what anyone on holiday wants. Many other staff are misreable and tutted and showed annoyance when ordering more that 2 drinks! If you are in a group of 4 or 6, expect them to show their disappointment when you go for drinks. Beer is so weak you will need a shot now and again. Animation rubbish, they pick a few select young good looking people to talk to. Most staff do not speak English. Beach is horrible gravel/stones. Plastic cups for beer all over except lobby bar. No padded chairs outside. Room was nice. Bed comfortably. Weather was great. Been to Turkey 4 times now and this was the worst by far. Unfortunately there are a lot more bad points than good.
