Sousse or Tunis Medina

An old Arab quarter of a North African city is called a medina and they’re often an excellent place to explore and get a taste of the local culture. Medinas are the place to head for a fun and traditional Tunisian shopping experience, where you can pick up beautiful handmade crafts and souvenirs. What makes the experience all the more fun is putting your haggling skills to the test in order to get the best bargain possible.

The resorts of Sousse and Tunis both have great medinas that are worth spending some time in, both of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This status guarantees to maintain their authentic charm.

Asides from shopping, there are plenty of other sights to see within these medinas. The medina of Sousse is home to the Ribat, the Kasbah and the Great Mosque. Then the medina of Tunis is home to over 700 monuments, including the Al-Zaytuna Mosque  and Tunis’s first Ottaman-style mosque, Sidi Yousef.
