Holidays in Cap Salou

Cap Salou is perfect for a quiet holiday. You’ll find this secluded resort on a headland of the same name, just outside lively Salou. The sun-kissed little coves (‘calas’) of Cap Salou’s rugged coastline are overlooked by pine woods, while the hilly streets offer a handful of restaurants, bars and shops. It’s a get-away-from-it-all kind of place, but with plenty of attractions nearby should you want them.

When you’re not spending the tranquil days sunbathing on the beach or by the pool, you could be teeing off at a golf course with a view of the sea. There are also a few bars and restaurants to choose from, with many more in the nearby resort of Salou. It’s just along the coast and home to PortAventura, Europe’s largest theme park, waterparks and everything else you could want for a day of fun in the Spanish sunshine. Salou’s old town is lovely to explore, with a more traditional style, and the seaside city of Barcelona is in easy reach.

You’ll find lots of great little beaches around here. They’re the main attractions in Cap Salou. Windsurfers love the breeze at sandy Cala Vinya beach, which is also perfect for both volleyball and sunbathing. For extra peace and quiet, visit the rocky cove of Cala Penya Tallada or stretch out at Cala Morisca, which is next to the lighthouse. Head into Salou for a livelier beach scene, where kids play on the gently shelving sands of Llevant Beach. This is one of the best beaches on the Costa Dorada, so there are plenty of watersports, restaurants and shops available.

Famous for its natural woodlands, Cap Salou is an idyllic place for a game of golf. There are four golf courses to choose from, plus many more along the rest of the Costa Dorada. There are plenty of things for kids to do in Cap Salou too; the rollercoasters of the huge PortAventura theme park and the slides of the Aquopolis waterpark are close by. And you’ll be in a great location for a day trip to Barcelona, where you can see Antoni Gaudí’s unusual Sagrada Família cathedral, tour the Nou Camp football stadium and stroll amongst the market stalls and street performers on the bustling Las Ramblas.

Some of Spain’s best-known foods are from this region, including the spicy chorizo sausage. Other cured meats are popular here too; make sure you try the local hams and dried boar. You’ll also find lots of places in Cap Salou and Salou serving fresh seafood. Fish often comes with romesco sauce, which is made from tomatoes, red peppers and almonds. It’s just as delicious smothered  over vegetables. To round off your meal with a classic dessert, pick the crema Catalana (similar to crème brûlée). You can wash the whole lot down with wine from one of Costa Dorada’s many vineyards.
