This glorious resort on the shores of the sunny Costa Blanca is best known for its huge Penon de lfach rock, which dominates the coast here. With beautiful fine sandy beaches, ample leisure facilities, ancient history, and fantastic hotels, it's no wonder so many families and couples book holidays here year after year.
The atmosphere here is a little quieter and more laid-back than bustling Benidorm, so if you're looking for somewhere where you can really unwind and take things slowly, this is the place to be. Whether you're here for just a few days or a fortnight, you'll find Calp has something for everyone, from foodies to water sports enthusiasts.
Things to do
Spend some time at Cova dels Arcs, a breath-taking cove with dramatic arches and steep cliffs, 22km from Calpe. Or visit the Aqualandia water park, where you can zoom down water slides, splash in the swimming pool, ride on the river rapids, or just soak up the sun on the terraces.

Expect plenty of long, hot sunny days if you're taking your holiday from around mid-June to mid-September. Like the rest of the Costa Blanca, beach weather is virtually a given at this time of year, as rain is scarce and daytime temperatures typically peak between the high 20s °C and low 30s °C. Even in October and November, which have higher rainfall, you can usually expect a good deal of sunshine and a lot of pleasantly warm weather. Calp is also one of the warmest winter destinations in Europe, with daytime temperatures in January often reaching the mid to late teens, which is close to what you'd expect in the southern UK in May.
The easiest way to travel is to take a flight to Alicante Airport, about 76km to the southeast. It's served by various UK airports throughout the year.
Families: Calpe holidays are ideal for families seeking somewhere with a quieter atmosphere and easy access to different theme parks.
Couples: With a good range of restaurants within walking distance, lively bars near the beach, and excellent transport links to other Spanish resorts by tram, Calpe is well suited to couples who simply want to relax and would prefer not to hire a car on their holiday.
Nature lovers: With great beaches and beautiful natural attractions well within reach, Calpe is also an ideal base if you love the great outdoors.
Language: Spanish. Like other resorts in the Costa Blanca, you can expect at least a basic level of English to be spoken in most tourist venues like hotels and seafronts bars and restaurants. However, if you're keen to practice your Spanish and impress the locals during your holiday, feel free to download an app or buy a phrasebook and try out a few basics.
Currency: Change your Stirling into Euros, or get a Thomas Cook Cash Passport and top it up with Euros to use while you’re on holiday.
Local time: One hour ahead of the UK, like all of Spain.
Fly to: Alicante Airport, 76km from Calpe.
Flight time from the UK: It takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to fly from the UK to Alicante Airport.
Tourist Information: Find out more tourist information on Calp holidays here https://www.calpeonline24.com/.
Visa and Health: For the latest visa and health requirements, click here https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain.
By Bus: There are regular buses between Calpe's train station and the resort's other neighbourhood, which are run by Autobuses Ifach S.L.
By Tram: You can take the tram to Alicante in about 90 minutes and enjoy terrific views of the coast as you go. Trams also connect Calpe with Benidorm, Altea and Denia.
By Taxi: There are many situations where travelling by taxi can be quite convenient, especially when you're travelling with lots of luggage to or from the airport. Just make sure you agree the fare before you set off.
By car: If you'd prefer more independence and the flexibility to travel at your own pace during your holiday, then hire a car from Alicante Airport or the resort itself.
Like other towns and cities across Spain, Calpe celebrates many festivals throughout the year, from spectacular fiestas like the Virgen Del Carmen in July, to the Oktoberfest Beer Festival from late October to early November.
This is an all-year-round destination, thanks to a very mild climate that rarely dips below the mid-teens; hot and sunny in the summer, pleasantly warm in late spring and most of autumn. The area enjoys nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine in an average year, which compares to less than 1,500 hours for most locations in the UK. So whether you’re here in January or July, a holiday here is perfect at any time of the year.
