You won’t have to go far to find Puerto del Carmen’s main beach; it’s right in the heart of the resort, and perfectly equipped for spending long, lazy days by the sea. When you feel like taking a break from sunbathing, you can pop indoors for a drink at the bustling bars on the seafront promenade. Or you could take a leisurely stroll along to Playa Chica and hire a jet-ski. If you’re travelling with the family, or fancy a change of scenery, the local waterpark makes for a fun-filled day out. And for those who want to stay out late in the resort, you’ll be pleased to hear that this place is Lanzarote’s nightlife hub, so bring your dancing shoes and glad rags for a great night out!

Lanzarote sits on the golden southern coastline of Lanzarote, and it’s home to some of the very best beaches on the island. The main (and most popular) beach is Playa Grande, a gorgeous stretch of sand right in the centre of town. Sunloungers, umbrellas and a gently-shelving shoreline are waiting for you here. And if you take a 10-minute stroll along the promenade you’ll arrive in Playa Chica in the charming old town. It’s perfect if you’re seeking a more peaceful spot to relax in. Or if you want to try your hand at snorkelling or scuba-diving. In the east, you’ll come across Playa Pocillos, with a huge sweeping bay and windsurf-ready waves. With three spots to choose from, why not try them all and pick your favourite?

Once a former fishing village, you’ll be able to see a little of the resort’s history over in the pretty old quarter. It’s brimming with traditional Canarian charm, and it’s a lovely area to explore on foot. You’ll find lots of authentic tapas bars and superb seafood restaurants, and it’s a great place to pick up a souvenir or two as well. Visit on a Friday to shop at the lively market, or you could head up to the resort’s main mall to find the clothes shops. Fancy a daytrip with the kids? They’ll love the Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park, with its fun-filled waterpark (think huge swimming pools and all kinds of water slides).

Puerto del Carmen is well known as Lanzarote’s nightlife capital; this place really comes alive after dark. You can find a mix of bars and clubs along the main strip (Avenida de la Playas), which are open until the early hours. You can get started early with a cocktail on the beach and listen to some live music, before hitting up the bustling bars and dancing the night away at a club. And if you overdo it a bit, you can always spend the next day recovering on the beach!
