The sun drenched region of Andalusia is a Spanish paradise with history and tradition flowing from town to town. Signs of its culture - flamenco dancing, metadors, tapas and sherry are still present in all of its sunny resorts.

Discover Moorish architecture, historical ruins and spectacular views of the thriving countryside on your Andalusia holiday. Then there’s the beautiful coast with its stunning Blue Flag beaches and vibrant nightlife. Andalusia is a great destination for families, couples and groups looking to soak up the laidback Spanish lifestyle.

Things to do

Andalusia is famous for its huge 800 kilometre stretch of golden sand, creating countless incredible beaches. Families will enjoy the crystal clear, shallow waters of Playa del Cristo’s Blue Flag beach. But the palm-fringed coast in the region’s first ever resort, Torremolinos is just as tempting with its watersports and rows of sun loungers.

Those looking to sightsee will appreciate the many historical influences, over time the architecture has crumbled, creating beautiful ruins from different eras. Visit the mountaintop town of Ronda to see the dramatic gorge that used to separate the new town from the old during the 15th century. Take a trip to Granada and catch a glimpse of the stunning 9th century Alhambra Palace or stop by Benalmadena Pueblo, a Colomares Castle which stands in honour of the explorer Christopher Columbus.

There’s also a wide choice of evening entertainment in Andalusia, with each resort providing something different. The coastal towns found on the Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luz host upbeat, after-dark activities and the traditional towns inland have a calmer, evening atmosphere.

When the sun goes down Malaga is both elegant and energetic with a great range of restaurants and rustic wine bars. Over in the popular Benalmadena find neon-lit bars and live music. Not forgetting Seville, Andalusia’s capital, where the evening entertainment is more traditional with tapas bars open late and flamenco performances.

As the southernmost region, Andalusia witnesses 300 days of annual sunshine. It has the hottest and driest summers in the whole of Spain, which is when most people hit the coast for some respite from the scorching heat. By the time winter comes around temperatures are still relatively mild, but your chances of rain are much higher.

Temperatures begin at around 24°C and peak at a sweltering 36°C in July and August. You’ll have 12 hours of sunshine a day with less than 5mm of rainfall per month. It’s easy to misjudge how hot it is thanks to a welcoming sea breeze that keeps the coast nice and cool during the hot summer days.

Temperatures in Andalusia drop to 20°C in October, which marks the start of autumn in the region. There’s slightly less sunshine each day, but you’ll still have at least seven hours of a day with just a few rain showers scattered throughout the season.

The weather in Andalusia cools to 11°C and 12°C by the time December arrives. Rainfall increases in winter, which is the wettest season of the year. You can expect around 76mm of rainfall in December that gradually lowers to 59mm by February.

Spring brings warmer weather to the region, with highs of 15°C in March that rises to 20°C in May. A cool breeze is common near the coast, which can cause a slight drop in the average temperature. The water is still too cold to swim in, but it’ll get warmer as the month’s progress and as spring moves into summer.
