Walking is a great way to explore this region, from the beautiful national parks to the white-sand beaches lining the coast. La Taha de Pitres, Alpujarras is a lovely walk, high up in the Sierra Nevada national park you can follow the ancient paths that connect the villages with breathtaking views of stunning scenery just a few hours drive from Malaga. If you want to stick to the coastline, the walk from Cadiz to Tarifa in the Costa de la Luz follows the white sand beach, backed by pretty pine forests and dotted with tiny fishing villages.

What is the public transport like in Andalusia?

There is a modern public bus and coach service that links the main towns and villages in Andalusia. Buses are frequent in the main towns along the Costa del Sol but if you want to get off the beaten track you can hire a car in resort to give you the freedom to explore.

What is Andalusia like in January?

Many places along the coast are pleasant in January and it may even be possible to do a spot of sunbathing on the beach on the Costa del Sol. Is Andalusia a good place to spend New Year?

Granada and Seville are great places to spend new year, as they are bigger there is more going on and the celebration spill out into the main streets around the city. The smaller towns and villages have parties in the main squares and in the resort hotels they decorate and celebrate to see the new year in. Don’t forget to buy a bag of 12 grapes so you can eat one every second before midnight as the bell tolls, it is supposed to bring you good luck.
