With 300km of snow to cover, it’s easy to see why Val D’Isere is a winter sports mecca. Your days on the slopes might involve whooshing down the long red runs on Le Fornet glacier, braving steep black runs and off-piste tracks or freestyling to music in the snowparks. If you’ve always fancied trying snowmobiling, dogsledding or even heli-skiing, you’ve come to the right place – there’s lots of activities to choose from. Make sure you bring extra spending money so you can go shopping, with designer stores, art galleries, jewellers and more - it’s one of the highlights.

Although Val D’Isere mainly attracts intermediate and advanced skiers, its diverse terrain means there’s room for those new to skiing too. Mid-level skiers are in heaven with long, wide blue and red runs, while those who are man enough may fancy a go at the Men’s Olympic Downhill run. The snowpark here is one of the world’s biggest with everything from jumps and pipes to tables and barrels. If you’re wondering what to do in Val D’Isere away from the slopes, you could practise laps in the indoor swimming pool or glide around the ice rink. How about ice climbing?

It’s hard to resist the lure of the warmly-lit shops on Olympique Avenue after night has fallen on the mountains. From luxury boutiques to antique stores, the shops here are a shopaholic’s paradise. All the trendy sportswear names are here such as Billabong, Roxy and Quicksilver. Boutique Beautiful sells a wide variety of your mugs, magnets and suchlike. One of the best places in Val D’Isere to purchase local wine, saucissons and cheese for your friends and family back home is Epicerie de Neiges. A great place for unique fabrics and jewellery is the market, held every Monday.

Val D’Isere has a multitude of vibrant bars and clubs as well as cosy creperies and wonderful restaurants. The party never stops at the famous Folie Douce; watch cabaret-style shows indoors or go crazy on the outdoor dance floor. A chic Nordic design and international DJs makes Dick’s Tea Bar a party favourite. Want to know where to go in Val D’Isere to enjoy a quieter night out? We’d recommend Saloon and M Bar. Kick back with a cool frothy beer and listen to live music in Saloon. You’re guaranteed to have a laugh with your mates in one of the karaoke bars.
