Avoriaz Ski Holidays
You’ll find Avoriaz on a sloping shelf above the resort of Morzine, in the middle of the Portes du Soleil ski area. If you love skiing high up in the clouds and want to see some of the most awe-inspiring views in The Alps, then Avoriaz is guaranteed to please. The village features stylish, state-of-the-art buildings, and ski-in, ski-out convenience. If you look forward to après-ski, it can be as lively or relaxed as you wish here.
Take to a Segway and set off along one of the walking trails in the area. These two-wheel electric vehicles are a great option for exploring while resting your legs. Swap your skis for snowshoes and take part in a guided ramble through forests and untouched terrain. Remember to keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife! Another way to see the breathtaking surroundings is by dog sledding. It’s one of the most exhilarating activities in Avoriaz and is a must for romantics at night. Visit one of the spas and unwind in a steam room or sauna.
The massive Portes du Soleil ski area has something for everyone, and is connected by the world’s largest lift network. Beginners and families love the snowcross zones; areas of small ripples where you can experience the fun of mountain slopes in a safe setting. If blue runs suit you, the lengthy, tree-lined routes to Les Lindarets and Chatel will impress. Only expert skiers will want to attempt the Olympic downhill run and tricky mogul field, known as the Swiss Wall. Snowboarding is one of the best things to do in Avoriaz thanks to five snowparks, a super-pipe and two mini parks for kids.
Relax those achy limbs and enjoy some water fun at Aquariaz, one of the top attractions in Avoriaz. Highlights at this indoor waterpark include a gentle river, a water playhouse and the ‘sidewinder’ half-pipe. There’s also a climbing wall and massage benches if you’d rather just unwind and gaze outside. Get your skates on and head to the outdoor skating rink. Regular evening skating discos are held for teenagers. Try out the latest snow sport – yoonering. All you have to do is sit on a yooner kart and let it whizz you down the slopes, it’ll have you in fits of giggles.
Choose from a good selection of lively bars to sink a few beers in. Friendly Shooters is the perfect place to start – it’s right in the town centre. It begins to fill up late afternoon in anticipation of its happy hour. You may visit Le Yeti to gobble a crepe or two but at night it transforms into a welcoming bar. If you’re looking for places in Avoriaz to let your hair down and dance until the early hours, popular Globetrotters is open till 2am, seven days a week, while Le Yak nightclub keeps buzzing till 5am.
