It’s a good idea to stop by the ski school next to the high-speed gondola. The instructors can teach you more about the local area and you’ll get the chance to develop your skiing technique. Advanced skiers can show off their skills in one of the freestyle camps. Ski through the long smooth runs till you reach the short pistes – guaranteed to give you a thrill. For something a bit different, check out one of the other snow-based activities in El Tarter, like dog-sledding or igloo building. Drive around the ski area in a piste-grooming machine or join a guided winter hike across the mountains.
After a long day on the slopes, head to one of the mountain top restaurants and enjoy the views of the town. Try one of the local dishes, such as xai al forn, roasted shoulder of lamb accompanied by pan amb tomàquet, slices of freshly baked bread topped with tomatoes and garlic. Finish your meal off with crema catalane, a sweet dish of custard with a crispy caramel topping. Or for something a bit livelier, head to one of the local bars. The bustling resort of Soldeu is great if you fancy partying until the early hours.
Andorra is a tax-free country, so shopping is one of the best things to do in El Tarter.
