Walk along the nature trails and you may just stumble upon one of Tobago’s tranquil waterfalls. If you love being by the sea, one of the best places in Tobago is Buccoo reef, perfect for snorkelling or scuba-diving. The weather in Tobago is mostly warm and sunny all year. The island has two main seasons, the dry season and the rainy season. The dry season covers January to May and the rainy season, June to December. Although a rainy season, mornings are usually sunny and the rain does not fall until the afternoon, with clear nights.
By taxi: Getting around Tobago is reasonably easy as taxis and maxi-taxis (privately owned mini-buses) are readily available in towns, hotels and the airport.
By hire car: Hire a car to make the most of the island, but during peak times booking months in advance is recommended.
By bus: You’ll also find the main bus terminal located in the town of Scarborough with routes covering the majority of the island.
Traditional music: Carnival is Tobago’s most popular event, with flamboyant dancers and traditional music, including African drumming, to match the spirit. This 2-day event (during February or March) in Scarborough will see you partying through the day and night.
Lively dancing: For a fun-fuelled evening of lively dancing and music every week, head down to Buccoo’s Sunday School Street Party.
Crab races: If you’re around at Easter, watch the goat and crab races in the village of Buccoo. Not only are the goats specially trained but the jockeys have to be able to keep up by running alongside.
