Downtown Edmonton is the central business district of Edmonton.  But it should not be mistaken for being all about tall skyscrapers.  This area is home to some of Edmonton best hotels, such as the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald & The Westin Edmonton.  In the downtown area you will also find the City Hall, Edmonton Law Courts and a number of theatres.   The Winspear Centre and the Citadel Theatre being two of the most prominent.

At 5.3 million square feet West Edmonton Mall has everything you can need all under one roof.  Over 800 shops, a casino and waterpark are just part of what is available.  The Mall also includes two hotels, the Fantasyland and West Edmonton Mall Inn.  Just 5 minutes by car or 15 minutes by public transport there are also a number of other hotels located to the north of the Mall.

Old Strathcona and more specifically Whyte Avenue is one of Canada’s top shopping districts, but not just your major chains.  All around you can find fashion boutiques and one of a kind gift stores.  As well as shopping you will find numerous restaurants and bars and at night there is a wide choice of entertainment from live music, theatre and even improvised soap opera!

Situated east of Edmonton, Elk Island National Park is an oasis for wildlife enthusiasts. Come here to hike, camp, picnic, golf, kayak, or simply while away a day in beautiful surroundings. Animal lovers can enjoy the company of free-roaming bison, moose and deer, while everyone else can look forward to a peaceful escape from the city. Plan your visit around dusk for a better chance of spotting the wildlife, then find your perfect spot to camp out under the stars.

Boasting 800 shops and services, the world’s largest indoor wave pool, entertainment and an on-site casino, West Edmonton Mall is the mecca of North America's shopping scene. You’ll need the full day to explore its attractions, which includes an aquarium, 18-hole miniature golf course and nightclub. Arrive early and don’t leave without having a peek at the full-sized pirate ship.

The largest urban park in North America, The River Valley Park provides a slice of wilderness in the heart of the city. At 22 times the size of New York's Central Park, it has served as a meeting place for visitors for thousands of years, and is a must-do on your West Canada itinerary. Come here to enjoy a leisurely bike ride, take a romantic stroll, or simply to soak up Canada’s lush natural landscape.

Home to a collection of local boutiques, trendy eateries, pubs and clubs, Whyte Avenue is a fantastic choice if you're looking for places to go in Edmonton after sunset. Located in the Old Strathcona neighbourhood, this historic area offers a range of after-dark activities for all tastes. Whether you go to sample the local cuisine, listen to live music, or enjoy a cool evening of shisha and cocktails, make sure you stay long enough to soak up the buzzing vibe.
