Lovely stay, don’t let the run down facilities put you off, just don’t expect 5 star

Positive - Staff, amazing, lovely people special shout out to Troy behind the bar for getting me very drunk several times over Location, right on the beach so you can have the best of both worlds between pool and beach, hotel feels very secure so no worries about leaving bags around on loungers while your in the pool. Town is a short 5 min walk where there’s loads of nice restaurants if you fancy a change from the food at the hotel All inclusive - really does mean all inclusive, cocktails in particular are very good and very strong. The breakfast, lunches and snack bar options were also great. We didn’t have dinner as wanted to get out and about but general consensus from other guests it’s just the food from lunch re- heated! We did try the chic restaurant where you have to book, it was fine but it smells like an old peoples home. Wi - FI absolutely awful but a positive if you want to avoid what’s going on back home Pool bar - not many places on this budget have such a good swim up bar, lost a few afternoons hanging out there Negatives - Facilities, like every negative review this hotel is so old and tired, dining room feels old and the pool although nice the paint is peeling away, the rooms are lovely and big and air con works great but everything feels old and not particularly clean - bathroom was cleaned to a hostel level. Our key card stopped working with 3 days to go and they never fixed it, which was a pain having to explain the problem every day. They stopped providing bottles of water for the room and told us that there was a shortage and to use the tap - Genuinely so much easier to get a rum and coke than it was to get bottled water for the entire stay. The wi-fi is awful. However if all these things were better the price would be double and we wouldn’t be able to afford it so you have to take the rough with the smooth. Most guests take the problems they have had in good humour - and it’s a good talking point at the swim up bar!

Staff and Location let down by poorly maintained rooms

First I'd like to say that the location and staff made for probably one of the best holidays we've had. The beachfront location and the views at sunset are breathtaking. The staff were exceptional, friendly and helpful, Christel who works on the main reception is very helpful and nothing was ever too much trouble. The bar staff in the pool bar and evening bar were also fantastic and you get a real feel that you are part of their family. The house cleaning staff did a fantastic job every day. The rooms are spacious and generally comfortable. Now, onto some negatives. Rooms: The rooms are looking very tired, not majorly but things that should take a reasonable DIYer about 10 minutes to fix are not maintained. Strip lights in the bathroom were not working and should be replaced. Shower fitments were hanging off the wall. The sliding door that doubles as both the toilet and shower door slides open when using the toilet. One of the sink basins had a large crack in it and needed replacing. Whilst coffee was provided in the room this was in the way of a coffee filter bag, excellent if you have a coffee machine, pretty useless with just a kettle. We spoke to other residents who had one or the other, but few with both. Typically if guests wanted teas they had a coffee machine and if they wanted coffee they ended up with a kettle. The curtains didnt close properly which was fine if you like to rise early to sunlight flooding into the room at 5:30, We mentioned some of these to the staff and whilst helpful at reception nothing was done, to be honest it felt like first world problems and it didnt detract majorly from our stay. Entertainment: The pool side entertainment and early evening music didnt seem to reflect the customer base for the hotel, unless you were into gangster rap of course. The evening entertainment was not too bad although they seem to have a set playlist no matter what type of band or disco it was. Food: There is a wide selection and whilst i realise its difficult to cater for so many guests in a buffet style i was concerned that the same ingredients were re-used and reheated for several meals. Cooked roast chicken whilst nice on the night often found its way to salad the next day and sometimes the day after. I was disappointed that there were not more Caribbean dishes available to try to give and more authentic reflection of the local food. Loungers and Umbrellas: I expect that as a reader you'll be familiar with the 6am strategic towel run at lesser locations, I didnt not expect this to be needed at a hotel with a 4.5 star rating. Often if you slept late there were no loungers left by 7am and the same on the beach front. Whilst there are supposed rules on this they were never enforced. There are not enough umbrellas to provide welcome shade if you are lucky enough to secure a lounger. During our stay the wind was constant which meant if you had no shade getting badly sunburned was almost a given. Beach sellers: On the beach you do get pestered a little with individuals peddling everything from bowls and bead jewellery to drugs. We know the hotel took steps to stop this and that the beach sellers do have to make a living in an otherwise high poverty area , however the sale of drugs should be a police matter and should be addressed. Summary: Whilst these were mainly minor issues they did provide a major talking point amongst guests and did leave a little sour note on the overall experience.

I stayed at the hotel recently. The staff Terry, Nigel, Christal, Marthanne and Brian were fabulous. Great family like environment because of them. I had a few issues with my room, Brian and Christal made sure I got a new room with less issues. Terry super helpful. Nigel and Marthanne made me feel like family. The hotel is in need of repairs, if the basic things were addressed it would be a much sweeter stay,. Its right on the beach. The hotel does not reflect the great staff. Shame on Marriott for not doing better. The condition of my first room are easy surface fixes. SHAME. Ants were all over the dresser when i woke up and in the toilet area, and the shower made a big big lake of water in the bathroom when I showered. The TV's did not work either. SHAME--The Staff makes the hotel and the stay worth it.(THE WHOLE STAFF) And shame on the nurse for charging $100 US money and not taking credit or debit cards. I went to a clinic and paid with my debit card $22 US. Bless up to the STAFF!
