The staff were lovely they food was really tasty in McGettigans likewise breafast was great. The room was spacious and although facing the front it was quiet and very comfortable. The only thing I notice was mould and mildrew in the bathroom which took from my overall rating. We dont normally stay at this side of Dublin but we took the bus in and out which was right outside the hotel and passed and returned regularily.
Nice hotel with flaws!
We booked the Bonnington through booking.com as they had the room configuration we needed for our family visit to Dublin. Upon arrival (very late in the evening) we were greeted by a receptionist who informed us that we had only been allocated double rooms and not the 3 twin rooms we requested. We had actually booked 4 twin rooms so this was also requested! The receptionist informed us, laughing, this was normal and it was a bit like fawlty towers at the hotel. Whilst I am sure this was meant as a joke after a long day travelling it was not funny! Eventually we managed to prove that we had booked 4 rooms and accepted doubles, just so we could get some sleep. The following morning we were informed the room allocation we booked with booking.com was not guaranteed as as a third party booking they did not have to honour our booking. The hotel did change one room to a twin as it simply would not work for the travellers to share a bed. We waited all day to change rooms, so it could be prepared, however the room was covered in dust! 3 of the rooms we were allocated had clearly been updated and were nice and comfortable, however, one room had not been updated and looked and felt very tired. The room did not have a smart tv (the hotel advertise smart tv’s in ALL rooms). The kettle in this room did not work on arrival, which a again after a long day travelling was very disappointing. I do have to say that the beds were the comfiest beds we have ever had in a hotel! On the first evening we ate at the insight restaurant and it was fabulous. The service and food were top rate. We returned to eat later in the week and the experience couldn’t have been more different! The food was not to the same standard and the service was so poor, we waited nearly an hour and a half for our mains. This was actually fine as we had all evening, however, no one was asking if we wanted a drink. Once we finished our main we ordered a pudding, after 20 minutes we asked how long it would be and was informed that the order went to the back of the queue and it could take up to an hour. Obviously we cancelled the order. Such a sham, we wished we hadn’t returned as it left a bitter taste. Whilst we were there we used the pool area which was nice, but be warned you will not be able to swim without a swimming hat which we ended up having g to purchase several for the whole family. If we had known this we would have taken hates with us and saved the expense! Overall, the hotel was ok in a good location, but I would not classify it as a 4 star hotel.
A good hotel
Very friendly and helpful staff, frequent buses to town, a small and clean room, nice bathroom, relatively quiet, comfortable beds. Would come again. Close to the airport, even by bus. A short walk to the bus stops.
