One of Portugal’s biggest lures for kids and adults alike, Zoomarine Algarve is a fun-packed and enjoyable way to spend the day. Located in Guia, which is only a 20-minute drive from Albufeira, there’s plenty to keep everyone happy. From splashing around in the wave pool to riding a mini rollercoaster, if you want to keep the whole family entertained then look no further than this aquatic theme park.
Zoomarine is a popular attraction with a difference; it takes its conservation efforts seriously with a rehabilitation centre and sealife educational programmes. So the whole family can have fun and learn about marine conservation too.
Adrenaline rushes are guaranteed, climb aboard the legendary pirate ship as it rocks you as if you were at sea (just don’t get sick!) and soar 4.5-metres high on the Buffalo mini rollercoaster, enjoying the winding curves as you go. Kids will love going around and around on the classic carousel and riding high in the clouds on the 26-metre panoramic big wheel.
When you get hungry, there are plenty of cafés and restaurants that overlook all the action. You can grab a quick bite, or sit down for something more substantial before you hit the rest of the sights. There’s lots of shade around the park, but make sure you’ve got plenty of sun cream if you’re spending the whole day here.
Wave pools and river rapids
It’s liquid thrills galore in the Zoomarine Beach area. Ride the 500-metre long ‘river’ with rapids aboard a rubber dinghy, and master the wave surges in the specially designed pool. Enjoy whizzing down the slides and swimming in the pools, while younger ones explore the pirates, treasure chests and water barrels in the Aquatic Playground. This collection of pools and slides will keep kids (and adults) happy all day long and is the perfect way to cool down on hot days.
You’ll find all the extras you need to make your day out easy and hassle-free too; from wheelchair hire and cash machines to Kiddy Car hire for when little legs need a rest from walking across the huge eight-hectare site. Browse Zoomarine’s souvenir shops and pick up a sealife-inspired memento of your trip.
It’s not just thrilling rides and water parks that make Zoomarine Algarve a must-see attraction. Learn more about marine life at the live animal shows, aquarium and exhibitions. Take a stroll around the park’s Oceanus Aquarium and marvel at full scale models of sharks, whales and dolphins, as well as aquatic ecosystems in massive glass tanks. At the tropical bird presentation, you’ll not only see boldly coloured parrots and cockatoos, but leave with an understanding of why there’s a need to protect the rainforest habitat and its species.
There’s a rehabilitation centre where specialised staff are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing marine and aquatic animals back into the wild. Zoomarine also has several projects aimed at conserving marine life and increasing environmental awareness with exhibitions for visitors to enjoy. Take a break from all the rides and excitement and watch the amazing and informative film ‘SOS Planet: One World, One future’ at the park’s 4D cinema.
Tickets include unlimited use of all the attractions, including presentations, 4D Cinema, aquarium, exhibition centre, attractions, and even the beach. You can buy tickets online before you arrive or at the ticket office when you arrive. You’ll need one full day to see everything on offer, but if you still can’t fit everything in or simply want to enjoy some more time at the attraction, you can buy a two-day ticket.
After your exciting visit to Zoomarine Algarve, spend your next day on Tavira Island or at Praia de Marinha. Soak up some sun as you relax on the sand, and go swimming or snorkelling in the sea.
