There’s a lot to do in the town of Silves, which is just a 20 minute drive away. From taking a refreshing break out of the sunshine in one of the cafés and museums to perusing the mosaic decorated lanes and cobbled streets. Follow the gothic towers to the 13th century cathedral to see the Crusader tombs and military stone structure. The small town was once the Algarve’s capital and has lots of history to explore.
The spectacular Moorish castle serves as a fantastic, relaxing day trip from Carvoeiro. Stroll around the building’s remains and experience the enormity of the castle walls. The reddish, sandstone fortress is in an admirable setting of lush, green countryside and the flowing Arade River. Climb the steep steps to the top to see magnificent views of the picturesque surroundings.
