Does Alvor have a shopping mall?

As one of the smaller resorts in the Algarve, Alvor does not have a shopping mall, though it offers a great variety of smaller shops selling locally-made crafts and interesting souvenirs. There is a good market for fresh foods and spices at cheap prices. Mini-markets can be found dotted around town for other provisions. Nearby Portimao is a much larger shopping centre with malls and retail parks.

Does Alvor have a golf course?

Alvor is positioned close to some of the best courses in the area. On the outskirts is situated Penina championship course, the oldest and most famous in the Algarve. Also, between Alvor and Portimao is the Alto course, sandwiched between the town and the sea with an interesting, weaving circuit. Alamos is the newest golfing destination located just north of Portimao alongside its sister course, Morgado.

Can I take a boat tour from Alvor?

Yes, there’s a choice of tour boats that moor up in Alvor Harbour ready to take you on trips along the coastline to places such as Lagos, visiting the caves and grottoes. There are also swimming and diving cruises, and stunning sunset cruises available.

Should I hire a car if I'm travelling to Alvor?

There are good bus services for transfers from the airport to Alvor and between local destinations, however you can hire a car online for a reasonable price to collect from the airport, the drive is a straightforward one and you will have the convenience of a car for the rest of your holiday. There are also car hire companies in Alvor itself if you decide to hire when you get there. Portimao, the closest large town has a railway station if you like to travel by train between towns.
