This beachfront hotel places its guests just meters away from the sandy strip and is the perfect place for a sun-soaked vacation in Playa del Carmen. Its guests can reach the center of the resort, the restaurants, bars, pubs, shopping outlets and the tourist sites on La Quinta Avenida within a 10-minute walk. The concept of the venue is to provide the perfect conditions for relaxing, so there are no TVs, phones or radios in the rooms. But to compensate for that there are large comfortable beds and private terraces with hammocks, where one can spend the warm afternoons with a good book in hand and a chilled cocktail by his side. If some extra pampering is needed the onsite spa center can provide a number of treatments and massages, which will surely nourish both the body and the mind. WiFi access is provided in the lobby, the Casa Club and the conference room.

Welcome to paradise

We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing and fun long weekend at Mahekal! From the moment we arrived, bit into our first fish taco and sipped our first margarita by the pool, we were in paradise! The staff was incredibly welcoming, helpful, and kind, the food was amazing, and swimming in the balmy Caribbean Sea followed by a dip in the infinity pool or the hot tub, and then falling asleep to the sound of crashing waves was just what we needed. We loved the flexibility of the half inclusive plan. We could choose whether we wanted to have lunch or dinner at the resort, and for the other meal, take a fun, very short walk down the street to one of the many amazing restaurants within a few blocks. We researched a few other locations for this trip, but Mahekal stood out for its unique rooms and environment -- very different from the other high rises along this strip of Playa del Carmen. The entire staff deserves kudos for their attention to detail and service, but Ivan, Maria and Enrique at Fuego all made a wonderful impression. We can't wait to go back!

A just about perfect week in a just about perfect hotel and resort

This beautiful resort met and even exceeded all of our expectations. The grounds were gorgeous, the pools were fantastic, the room was simple, but ideal for an unplugged getaway. The restaurants and bars were fabulous: great food, terrific variety, and bar tenders who were friendly and excellent at making all of our favorite drinks. Waitstaff in the restaurants were incredibly friendly, in fact all the staff were accommodating, professional, and seemed genuinely happy to assist. Also, the short walk up to 5th Avenue was a real plus: all of the souvenirs, bars and restaurants you could possibly ask for within less than a miles' walk from the front gate. My wife and I wanted a romantic, relaxing, gorgeous, vacation and this was just about perfect. We will definitely come back!

A relaxing getaway in tropical paradise!

Such a lovely time at Mahekal! The staff was so friendly and helpful - every single person greeted us while walking the grounds. Our room was very comfortable - nice bed! And a great deck with hammock overlooking the pool. Location was great. The popular shopping/dining avenue was barely a block away allowing us easy access to “off campus” activities. Several pools including an infinity pool on the beach. Lots of dining options with live music most nights. The overall vibe was generally low key. We heard many languages spoken from the guests. The lending library had a great selection of novels in German. I would definitely return to Mahekal!
