Impossible to sleep due to poor windows and sound coming from the busy street
We stayed for three nights in a double room with a sea view. Room looked very old, especially ceilings. But the worst thing was the windows - it does not closes properly, so you can hear everything what’s happening on the street just in front of the hotel. Street is very busy even at late night, so it’s impossible to sleep, it looks like you’re sleeping in the street.
Setting the record straight
On my last trip to Malta I stayed at the Regency Plaza, almost next door. But they put me in a stuffy room with no window, and I noticed that the place was frequented by prostitutes. So I cut short my holiday and flew home. This time I am staying at the Carlton, despite its image problem, and I am much happier. I paid a little extra, and got a room with a sea view, which is excellent. My room is freshly whitewashed, and the bathroom is large. The breakfasts are very good, and the view from the 6th floor restaurant is stunning. It's a small hotel, and there doesn't appear to be a bar here, but the Plough and Anchor pub is right next door, and well worth a visit, or two. My board basis is bed and breakfast, but Peppi's restaurant is right across the road, and I recommend it. The hotel is very well situated for transport. It's about 20 minutes by bus into Valletta. You can use numbers 13, 13A, 14 or 16, both there and back, so you never have to wait long. On the way back you get off at the stop called "Antik." You can buy bus passes at the "8 'till late" shop just up the road, (next to the book shop), and get either a 7 day unlimited pass for 21 Euros, or a 12 journey pass for 15 Euros. Although I paid for a taxi to get me here from the airport, on my way home I'll go by bus. Dr Paul Harris
it is cheap but still not worth it
Check in was very slow! The reception guys don´t care about yo at all. And ordering hotel transfer from and to airport - you will get the whole island tour with all the stops. It was said, that the rooftop pool is open at all times - but there where no water in it. You could hear other people breathing next door. And every morning at 7am the cleaning lady started to make some noise. Not enough warm water in the morning.
