Crocodile spotting in Cumbarjua

For a day away from the bustling beaches, head to the small town of Cumbarjua near Goa's capital Panjim to explore the lush wetland and Goa's scenic Mandovi River. Take a boat tour to see if you can spot the variety of marine life, fish and birds. The canal is also home to over 50 crocodiles; sail upstream to see them swim through the reeds in their riverside habitat.

In the local villages the crocodile is celebrated in January, as it is considered to be the guardian spirit animal of the community and used to defend the lakes from enemies in ancient times. Another way to explore the thriving nature is to cruise on a Kayak through the mangroves and down the glistening backwaters of the iconic Mandovi River.
