Rooms were great, staff were friendly and helpful, facilities were good and food was great and reasonably priced, we required a room extension for our 2 rooms due to late evening flights and rather than charge us another daily price for each room we paid an extended checkout fee which was a 1/4 of the price.

Comfortable and friendly hotel

Booked this hotel as part of a 'Secret Escapes' package. It was further from the centre of Reykjavik than we expected but the 40 minute walk was easy even for we retirees. Reception staff were so helpful, particularly Jenny who recommended trips and restaurants and booked them for us. Reception also booked taxis that arrived within a few minutes. On arrival we found ourselves with a twin room instead of a double but this was sorted within minutes. Room was basic but warm and comfortable enough. Plenty of space. Shower was good enough, though toiletries were in a dispenser that didn't work too well. The room cleaning service seemed to be in the afternoon rather than the morning which was a bit inconvenient as it was usually just as we arrived back from a day out and wanted to chill out in our room. We didn't use the spa - why would you with lagoons nearby? Breakfast was really good. Lots of choice of cooked bacon and eggs, pastries, fruit, cereals, cheese, meats and delicious bread etc. On our last morning we were unable to have breakfast in the restaurant due to our early departure but were able to collect a most exceptional picnic breakfast at reception to take away with us. We used the bar a couple of times and ate at the restaurant on our last night. The food and service in the restaurant were excellent but we were a bit surprised when we couldn't order dessert as it was by then after 9pm and the kitchen was closed. All in all we had a very pleasant stay here and really didn't need anything more luxurious as we were out and about enjoying Iceland most of the time.

what a joke

For the sake of getting the antisocial teen into a pool, we choose to take the last night at the comparatively overpriced Hotel Ísland - Spa & Wellness Hotel in the middle of nowhere rather than the nice flat downtown. ”sorry, its easter so the spa is closed”. (!) Oh well. Luckily, the room has a bath tub. Shame that the water is sipping out (everywhere) at a pace which will make the water go cold before the tub is full. As I hit the rock hard bed, I am starting to get rather annoyed, but I realize that I am being a bit of a Karen, and instead decide to regard it as a healthy surface training for the upcoming camping season. In the morning, said teen is not well. We head down for breakfast and ask if we can bring her a tray to the room. ”sorry, we do not allow that. But you can order from the roomservice”. Check with reception, who confirms that this is the first hotel in a veery long and intense travel history who will not allow to bring a crossie and a juice to a thrashed kid. (both worse half and I travel for work, and have well a couple of thousand hotel nights each under the belt, of which a few hundred with kids) Reception also refer to roomservcie. Back in the room, we try the roomservice app. It is for drinks and snacks only - and it opens at 11.30. Checkout is at 11. Back to reception to show them their own app. ”we never said you can order from roomservice” says the same 2 people who referred us to room service less than 15 minutes earlier. Oh, and on the topic of water: did I mention that the toilet only flushed when it felt like it ?
