For a beach day to remember, head to the west coast of Skiathos island where you’ll find the ever-popular Banana Beach. Hop on one of the regular buses from Skiathos Town to Koukounaries, and take the short but steep walk to the shore. If you have a hire car, avoid the hike by parking right next to the beach in the shade of the trees.
Banana Beach is split into two areas, Little Banana and Big Banana. Whichever beach you choose, you’ll enjoy calm blue waters and soft golden sand, but there are some big differences between the two. For a vibrant atmosphere with music and a young crowd, head to Big Banana. There are plenty of sunbeds to hire, and if you prefer to relax away from the crowd, there are quieter spots too. For a more tranquil experience, Little Banana is a beautiful place to unwind, but be aware that this is also a naturist beach.
If you have lots of energy, try out a watersport or grab your snorkel and check out the sea life beneath the surface of the crystal clear waters. When you get hungry, choose between two popular tavernas on the beach. Try the fresh calamari or enjoy a cool, refreshing drink.
As the day comes to an end, stay and watch the sunset from the beach before heading to Skiathos town for an evening meal in the harbour.
