Wonderful place to stay
It was my second visit to Margarenia. Loved it last time (10 years ago) and loved it even more this time. I booked a DBL room for me and my little daughter, but we got a 2-storey apartement instead. Very clean. Air conditioning on both floors. Balcony downstairs + private terrace upstairs. Large bottle of water waiting in the fridge on arrival, new coffee capsules and tea bags every day. Gorgeus relaxed interior, short walk away from the grocery stores, no hustle about the sun beds. Pool towels. View to the sun rising from the sea + mountains. Truely felt hospitality by the manager - couldn't ask for more :) I liked the surroundings of the property as well - real life with chickens and even a donkey. :) Also liked the proximity of the walking trail to the ancient Thera - close enough for a hike with 8 y/o. The beach and it's restaurants are only about a 15-min walk away. We preferred to relax by the pool and went to the beach only for walks though. I hope to be in Margarenia again someday!
Stay away from the crowds and a perfectly peaceful oasis
Our first time visiting Santorini and we definitely picked a gem by staying at the Margarenia Studios. We received the warmest welcome and were shown to our room - we had a top floor apartment so the views were fab, sea one way, mountains the other, but be warned the stairs into the room were steep. Our room was spotless every day with towel and linen changes and extras like teas and coffees were well stocked. Bed was comfy, bathroom was cozy but adequate for the week. The studios were in a perfect spot for touring the whole island - away from the busy towns of Fira and Oia but close enough to get there in a car in half an hour . Perissa is absolutely chock full of every restaurant you could imagine, I don't think if you stayed a year you could eat in every one, so much choice and we honestly never had a bad meal. Top tip, as soon as you get to main room from the studios, cross over and walk down any of the side roads - they all lead to the town and are off the busy fast road which isn't well lit at night. Would definitely recommend a boat trip when visiting Santorini. You get a completely different view and in the evening, amazing sunsets away from the crowds of the town's.
Gorgeous studios but...
The Pros We couldn't fault our room or the facilities. Spotlessly clean and spacious rooms are well equipped with modern furnishings. We arrived late at night and there was a large bottle of water in the fridge plus tea and coffee. Air conditioning and safe are free and towels are provided to use for the pool. There is Netflix available on the TV. Our room was kept clean and towels were replaced often. Gorgeous views of the mountains serve as a backdrop for the beautiful pool area which felt private and peaceful. And the garden and buildings are well maintained. The manager is ALWAYS on hand to offer advice. There is a bus stop and mini market a stones throw from The Margarenia. The Cons We didn't hire a car, therefore walked into town for food in the evenings and a couple of times for the beach. Be warned, the studios are a good 15 minute walk from the town centre along a busy and fast road. Take a torch as street lighting and paths are intermittent. At times it felt very unsafe. There are patches of wasteland surrounding the Margarenia which are used to dump rubbish and old mattresses. There are limited drinks available at the hotel bar but we would have liked snacks to be available, but this is a personal preference and we did book a self catering holiday. On the whole we can't fault the accomodation but wouldn't book again due to the location.
