With a quiet atmosphere, Kamari holidays are ideal for families and couples who want to enjoy some quality downtime together. However, if you can bear to tear yourself from its distinctive black sands, you’ll find plenty of things to see and do. From beachfront parties, to the sun-splashed tranquillity of the ancient ruins of Thera, you can make your holidays to Kamari as up-beat or low-tempo as you want them to be.

Set on a mountain just above Kamari’s black sand and pebble beach, Ancient Thera is the archaeological site of an historic town. Drive or hike the winding road to the top of the mountain to see a fascinating range of ancient treasures, including Hellenistic shops, old roads and temple ruins. Give yourself at least two hours to explore, and take some time to appreciate the spectacular views across the island before you leave.

With over 2km of black, volcanic sands and pebbles, Kamari’s beach is one of the most beautiful on the island. Clean and with shallow-shelving shores, it’s been awarded Blue Flag status and is perfect if you’re travelling with the kids. The nearby promenade offers a superb range of bars and restaurants, which rub shoulders with shops selling everything from groceries and snacks to leather goods and jewellery. If you’d like to add a shot of adrenaline to proceedings, there is a good variety of watersports available on the beach, including snorkelling and banana boat rides. Once you’ve watched one of the world-famous Santorini sunsets, the beachfront is one of the best places to go in Kamari for live music and DJ sets.

As day turns to night, Kamari transforms from a laid-back beach town to a party hotspot. From traditional eateries serving up hearty Greek cuisine, to swanky cocktail bars and neon-lit clubs, there is a range of nightlife to suit different tastes. Santorini Cine, the open-air cinema is a good choice for guests seeking more relaxed night-time activities. Movies start at 9:30pm and all the movies are screened in English.
