Can't beat the view

Stayed in La Luna suite, lovely unique cave room with the best balcony view I've seen. You are definitely here for the caldera views. The hotel is nice but would recommend adding a full length mirror on one of the bare walls as there was only a small mirror to share in the bathroom. The manager was very nice and friendly but forgot our welcome champagne, normally wouldn't be bothered by this but he specifically mentioned it to us at check in and then forgot to send it to our room. His assistant who delivered our breakfast every morning and helped us with our luggage was excellent and very helpful. There is a popular sunset bar next door where you can order drinks over the wall and get the same view for free ! The music is loud but barely noticeable once u close the door to your room. Excellent location to all the restaurants and bars and close to the bus station Overall a good experience

Great Location and Hotel!

The hotel, the view and the attention & help (George) were outstanding. The facilities and service exceeded expectations! The hotel is in the center of Fira, many good restaurants nearby, plus close to the airport, but far enough away to not hear planes.

Superb staff, location and views...but those steps.

Before I write one word, let me say this - I often praise hotel staff but the staff at Asteras Villas take customer service to a different level. Andreas, Renato and a young lady (apologies not remembering your name) simply could not have delivered a better experience and I believe our holiday could have been ruined - had it not been for all their help. Now some objective, possibly useful, information regarding Asteras Villas. Almost all TA reviews of Fira accommodation, witter on about sunsets and how fabulous their particular hotel choice was. The truth is that all the accommodation along the caldera rim is pretty high quality, (try booking them!), and the sunsets? That is entirely down to mother nature, so why “review” that? Before visiting Fira, I knew that accommodation along the caldera edge involved steps. What came as a surprise was how many of those steps there could be. Our suite, (Phoebe), was at the bottom of 113 of them. The Asteras web-site does provide a very good floor-plan of each of their villas but there is no mention of those steps. Now before you get the wrong impression, the twice daily walk up and down wasn’t that much of a bother - even for two persons over 65 - one sporting a cardiac pacemaker! The morning climb up the “West-face of Mount Caldera”, ended with a lovely, (but breathless), conversation with Andreas and the opportunity to order tomorrow’s breakfast. As well as getting some useful tips and hints from him. Again - I stress that I could not be happier with the excellent staff at Asteras. Especially help from the strapping young Renato in getting our luggage to and from the apartment. A feat I would have found impossible. Furthermore, the company with which I booked our stay in Fira (British Airways Holidays) provided little or no information about contacts, times, etc. Were it not for the help from Andreas, we would have been totally in the dark regarding things such as transfers. BA Holidays are not for those who like detail (or even a rep of some kind). Phoebe, as I mentioned, is as described on the website but that isn’t the whole story. First I’ll mention the bed, which is very comfortable but very, very inconvenient. One side of the bed was hard against the wall. Want to get up to visit the toilet during the night? Then be prepared to wake your partner as you “caterpillar” down the bed. I also took to sleeping with one of the pillows against the wall, after a couple of “bumps in the night”. This inconvenience is also evident on the floorplan of another apartment. A large part of our apartment was taken up by what could be described as a Roman Triclinium, or a Sultan’s “lounger”. In effect it’s another wall-to-wall bed. If you like lying down - you’ve died and gone to heaven. If you like sitting upright, you must again “caterpillar” up the “bed” and sit with your back against a few pillows. We had no other problems indoors. Phoebe has two outdoor areas, an upper area with sun-loungers, (very comfy), and a lower area with a table, two chairs and the jacuzzi. The table and chairs are where we took breakfast, (excellent by the way), and as we both hate jacuzzi’s - obviously cannot comment on how good or bad that was. The description of Phoebe also mentions access to “your own private exit to a “secret” pathway", that allows you to explore a part of Fira that not many people see or visit - which is absolutely the case - but effectively useless. Why? You cannot lock the door from the outside, (doesn’t even have an outside handle to close it), that leads to this path. If you wish to use it - your place will be unlocked. It isn’t a very well used path that’s for sure and crime on Santorini is very rare but my wife would be very nervous all day, even if it could be closed but unlocked. The second reason why it isn’t practical is that you would bypass Andreas in the office and our morning “climb” - as I’ve said - gives you the opportunity to order tomorrow’s breakfast. I did use our “private” exit some evenings, to go for a relatively level stroll and to take some atmospheric photographs of the deserted streets. So finally, what was our conclusion regarding Asteras Villas and Phoebe in particular? Well we both had a thoroughly great time and the myriad plus points, heavily outweigh the negatives. Would we stay again? Possibly but only if I could book one of the upper suites. That daily 452 “steep-step exercise regime” did get a little tedious - I have to be honest.
