Beaches

Mykonos beaches are, in a word, heavenly! Soak up the rays as you listen to the beats coming from nearby bars at Paradise, the island's party beach. It's a popular spot for water sports too, with canoes, water skiing and pedal boats to name just a few. Head west to the more family-friendly beach of Psaroú, or Kalafátis for its scenic offshore islets and reef. Only 10km from Mykonos Town, it's well worth visiting Elia Beach for its beautiful stretch of fine white sand, excellent waterfront restaurants, and comfy sun loungers.

Scuba diving

Discover the sights below the water at one of Mykonos' dive spots. You'll find a number of dive centres you can book experience with across the island. One of the oldest established centres in Greece is at Paradise Beach, where you can explore two wrecks, caverns and various reefs. The shallow dive at Bikini Reef is teeming with fish, while the dive centre at Kalafati beach will take you to explore several nearby wrecks.

Day trips

There's plenty of choice for day trips to add to your things to do in Mykonos list. Take a day trip from Mykonos to Delos, a small island offshore. Only half an hour away by ferry, this archaeological site is the mythical birthplace of ancient Greek gods Apollo and Artemis. Expect to see courtyarded villas and a view that takes in Mount Kýnthos. Mykonos' central location means it's the perfect hopping off point to other nearby islands, including Paras and the much quieter Tinos.

Sightseeing

Take a short break from the beaches and bars to walk around the innovative exhibits and exciting contemporary art on show at the Rarity Gallery. There are 400 churches on the island, yet the Church of Paraportiani is the most photographed. One look at its unique architectural style and you'll see why. Just a five-minute walk from Mykonos Town's restaurants and bars, this whitewashed church dates back to the 15th century. You won't want to miss the Armenistis Lighthouse, the busy Hó 'ra main town, or the medieval houses of 'Little Venice'.

Looking for some retail therapy to add to your things to do in Mykonos list? Located at the heart of the island, Matoyianni Street is a haven for shopaholics. The range of designer stores, souvenir shops and markets make it popular with tourists and locals alike. During the summer months, you can expect the shops on Matoyianni Street to be open until around midnight so you won't have to forfeit any beach time to visit. Stroll down the paved walkways and pick up everything from the island's famed almond treats, to colourful jewellery and handcrafted sandals.
