You'll discover the Ionian Island of Lefkas just off the Greek mainland's western coast. It's connected to the country via a floating bridge, within easy reach of the nearest airport. This is one of the lesser-known Greek islands, so you can really get away from it all. But that doesn't mean you won't find plenty of things to do in Lefkas.
Soak up the sunshine
When you arrive on Lefkas, you'll discover a wealth of beautiful beach resorts and charming cities with a cosmopolitan vibe. Pretty, pastel-coloured towns line the hillsides, where it almost feels like time has stood still. You can expect plenty of sunshine here, especially during the summer. Average temperatures in the peak season are 25 °C, rising to 30 °C and beyond in the hottest month of August.
Down in the south of the island, it's windier, and that's what makes this part of Lefkas a firm favourite among windsurfers. Nidri, Nikiana and Adios Ionnis are among the island's most popular destinations, known for their glorious beaches and sparkling seas. Just like most places here, they're surrounded by spectacular natural surroundings; think lush green trees and towering mountains. You can head inland from the beach resorts if you want to get up close to the scented pine forests and beautiful waterfalls.
Beyond the beaches
If you feel like exploring further afield, you won't want to miss the secret submarine hideout that was used during World War II; the fascinating Papanikolis Cave is just a short boat ride away. Lefkas is also surrounded by 10 satellite islands, so why not hop between them all and find your favourite spot? Set sail from Patras, Kyllini and other marinas and you can reach all kinds of idyllic spots out at sea.
You can also hire a car and take a trip back to the Greek mainland.
