The official language spoken in Crete is Greek. However, you’ll find that many of the locals speak English and are keen to make you feel at home, especially in the popular tourist areas. If you go out into any bars or restaurants you’re almost certain to find that the menu is written in English as well as Greek. But when travelling to a different country, it’s always polite to try and speak some of their native language whilst you’re there. Even if it’s just ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. Take a look at the most useful phrases that you might need on holiday in Crete and click on the green icons to hear how to say them.
