Trek Samaria Gorge
The breathtaking gorge of Samaria is situated in the heart of Crete’s National Park of Samaria and is widely known for its outstanding natural beauty.
Samaria Gorge is a haven for adventurers and is considered one of the top ‘must-do’ experiences whilst on holiday in Crete. The tough, rugged terrain can make exploring the gorge quite challenging. However, for novice trekkers it is made all the more possible by the help of an experienced guide. It’s not uncommon to see people attempting the trek in a pair of flip flops, but it is strongly advised that you come prepared, wearing a pair of sturdy walking boots or shoes that provide good support for your ankles.
The 16 kilometre long passage cuts straight through the island’s famous White Mountains and showcases some of the most amazing scenery in Europe. You’ll make your way down through the mountains and finish your journey at the shores of the Libyan Sea. It can take between five and seven hours to complete the trek, but if you’re feeling up to the challenge then it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity not to be missed.
