Heraklion – Weather
Crete enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate which means Heraklion experiences hot, dry summers and mild winters with relatively brief autumns and springs. Temperatures in Heraklion rarely drop below 25°C in the summer and the hottest months to visit are July and August. Temperatures rise to 30°C, but it’s not overly hot due to passing sea breezes blowing in from the sea.
Autumn begins in September, and the daily average decreases to 23°C before lowering to around 20°C in October. November has an average temperature of 17°C to 19°C with night-time lows of 14°C by the end of the season.
Heraklion weather from December to February is mild during the day with the lowest temperatures arriving in January. The average is around 12°C while evenings experience cooler weather with lows of 9°C. You might need to pack an umbrella for a winter holiday as Heraklion weather gets a little damp in January and February, with 100mm of rain per month.
Temperatures begin to rise again in May and usually sit around the low to mid-20s until early June. If you prefer things a little cooler, spring is the perfect time to visit because the climate in Heraklion is milder and enjoyable.
