Better than expected!
Better than expected! We were given this hotel as part of a Wowcher deal mystery tour, as have other reviewers on this site. Having read a mixed bag of reviews and never having really thought about travelling to Berlin, I was a bit reticent about it. However, the hotel is ok for the money; not luxurious by any means. Beds were comfy but 2 singles not double, pillows too soft but they gave us extra when we asked. Bar only seems to open Thursday -Saturday. Room basic but large, bathroom needs updating but shower was hot and powerful, room cleaned daily and clean towels. The room was warm and it was minus 5 outside, no air conditioning so may be hot in summer. We had breakfast one day but that was not brilliant, 12€ each, not to our taste. IKEA next door was a bonus, excellent breakfast for 14€ for 2, only 10 minutes walk away. Take a travel kettle & supplies as none in your room! If you don’t like travelling by public transport or walking, then this hotel is not for you, it is a good 30 minutes out of the city centre. The trams, trains and tubes are excellent and we had no trouble with transport, even to and from the airport. Download the S-Bahn app and buy a Berlin Welcome Card - a superb help! We just stayed out all day - after breakfast at IKEA! The staff were ok, some better than others, the free safe was a good service and they looked after our baggage on the last day as we had a late flight. It was an adventure and a pleasant surprise, Berlin was interesting and hotel was satisfactory.
A very comfortable stay.
I stayed 2 nights and had overall a good experience, despite of reading some negative reviews about this hotel. It is very clean everywhere you go. I found staff working at the reception less friendly, as those who were serving breakfast (which is very good indeed), they were very friendly and helpful and one of the women (local German) spoke perfect Russian, we had a nice conversation. My room was situated on the 6th floor, but I didn’t find it inconvenient, as the lift was very modern and fast. Unfortunately the TV is only local channels in German language. A complimentary big bottle with mineral water was provided in my room when I first checked in. The only problem with this place was its remoteness from the main tourist attractions of Berlin, but transport links are good and quite frequent too. So if you don’t mind commuting to the main tourist attractions, then I can definitely recommend this hotel.
City break blues
We booked a package and so couldn’t control what hotel we stayed at. Unfortunately it was this one and it really did tarnish our Berlin weekend away. The hotel can’t be blamed for for where it is situated, which for those wondering it is very far out of the main city area. Thankfully the public transport infrastructure is amazing here and trams are so easily accessible! The hotel however - positives are spacious room and view on higher floor. Negative - cleanliness of bathroom was awful!! Terrible pillows, more like a bag of scrummed pillow, very hot rooms. The hotel bar, it doesn’t open, don’t get your hopes up that after a long day of travelling around the city (given you are so far away) that you may sit in the bar and enjoy a wine, nope. There is barely anything surrounding to go to given how industrial the area is. Breakfast was a bit of a shambles and so I would recommend jumping on the tram and getting something at Alex
