Senegambia Beach Hotel

Senegambia Beach is a hotel on Kololi Beach in The Gambia, set in 20 acres of mature tropical gardens. There are one and two-storey buildings scattered around the grounds. Guests share the gardens with monkeys, squirrels and a variety of birds. The hotel is in a popular area for tourists. There are two main swimming pools, one by the main hotel building and the other close to the beach, with views of the sea. The beachside pool has a bar with a traditional thatched roof, and there are two smaller pools for children. The sun terraces have plenty of places to relax and are dotted with mature tropical trees. Between the hotel and the sea, steps lead to a narrow stretch of sand that belongs to the hotel, where you can sunbathe. You can also take a short stroll towards some of the larger beaches in the area. The hotel has three restaurants; one buffet and two à la carte. There is seating indoors, or you can dine on one of the outdoor terraces, either overlooking the sea or the gardens. There is a small collection of shops where you can buy souvenirs and swimwear, and you'll also find a gallery of African art on the floor above the reception area. The hotel is on the edge of Kololi, a popular resort with places to eat, drink and shop. Bijilo National Park, a nature reserve on the coast, is just south of the hotel. Banjul, the capital, is a short drive away.

Senegambia Beach leads to the sandy beach. You can relax on the hotel's own stretch or, if you want to swim, there's a choice of beaches around Kololi, where you'll also find plenty of bars. The hotel is at the end of the popular Senegambia Road, with lots of places to eat and shop. This area is also home to a craft market and shopping mall. The beachside woodland reserve, Bijilo Forest Park, is nearby, and is a well known area for bird watching. Banjul, the capital of The Gambia, is 17km from the hotel. The capital city is on an island where the Gambia River meets the Atlantic Ocean. You can enter through the famous Arch 22 gateway. Visitors can discover Gambia's history at the National Museum or shop at the Albert Market. You can take a boat trip on the River Gambia, and get to know more of the inland region.

The hotel has a buffet restaurant for breakfast and dinner, and an à la carte restaurant that serves pizzas and other Italian cuisine. There's another à la carte restaurant by the beach. The hotel has three bars, including a swim-up bar at the pool by the beach.

The hotel has several tennis courts. The staff organise daytime activities such as volleyball, aquaerobics and dance lessons, and in the evenings there's local entertainment.

The pool down the beach has a swim up bar. There is also a small separate pool area with a founder pool for children (sloping bottom). Narrow sandy terrace between the hotel and the sea with sun loungers, mattresses and umbrellas. It is difficult to swim directly below the hotel due to sandbags. If you walk about 100 meters in one direction you reach a nice beach.

Rooms have a balcony or terrace, where you can enjoy a cool drink straight from your fridge. All rooms have air conditioning and satellite TV.

A souvenir shop, a shop with swimwear and a gallery of African art can be found on the floor above the reception area. Everything you eat or drink is written in the room and paid with cash at check-out. You can withdraw money at the front desk at its Visa, Mastercard or American Express, extra charge.

Signs around all pools saying no reservation of sun beds but that does not stop pool attendants reserving all front sun beds even though no one turns up for them …obviously there is a back handed fee for this service …very disappointed!

Fabulous Hotel

Firstly the staff so helpful and friendly. They could not do enough for us so very kind and a huge thank you to all of them. We had a superior room overlooking the pool on the ground floor. This is basic bed cupboard safe Shower toilet and sink. Hot water all the time kept very clean. Bed super comfortable Clean towels for beach and shower whenever you require them Breakfast is buffet style Someone makes fresh omelettes & pancakes daily. There is bread for toast and fresh rolls. Also available is cheese tomatoes, cucumbers. Cereal, yoghurt tea & coffee. Bacon, sausages and potatoes. Although I found breakfast rather repetitive it was fresh and staff again were helpful The pool area we sat at was the quiet pool and it was very relaxing. The pool man very helpful moving beds and umbrellas. There is a pool bar with limited drinks during the day We are out for lunch and dinner and can recommend Gusto for an Italian dinner and Mango for an Indian meal. The hotel was well maintained and clean. The grounds are very pretty. Lots of monkeys and vultures Even though this a large hotel it seemed like it was very intimate I would 100 percent stay again at this lovely hotel. Thank you for making our stay so special

Perfect first time in Gambia

I stayed for 14 nights in a Standard room on Bed and Breakfast basis. The breakfast was superb. It exceeded my expectations. Plenty of choice, freshly cooked, and delicious. The room was fine. Plenty of storage, hanging space and hangers. The bed and pillows were comfortable. A lovely spacious balcony to sit and watch the animal and human world go by. I experienced a problem with the key to my patio door, and this was fixed quickly. I experienced a few issues with the 3rd party provided room safe. These were all resolved quickly. There was an electrical failure to the block, which I was not aware of until I returned to the room at 3pm. Housekeeping had left a letter in the room. The maintenance team replaced a large electrical supply cable, and power was restored by 5pm. I was kept updated by the manager, who oversaw the repair. A very efficient and impressive team response. Everyone, from management, to security, to housekeeping, to tennis pro, to gardeners, to beach and pool staff, was courteous, kind, and professional. They all contributed to a wonderful Gambian experience. I was a single female traveller and yes, outside the hotel, I got hassled. But no one bothered me, upset me, or prevented me from enjoying Gambian life. Everyone respected a polite "hello, but I'm not interested in talking to you today, thank you". Gambia is a beautiful holiday destination and the wildlife is stunning. The weather in December is perfect. Blue skies, no rain, and warm day and night. The senegambia beach hotel is in a perfect location, on a beautiful beach, close to shops, restaurants, and a craft Market (recommended). The hotel is well managed, the grounds are exceptional, and the staff are a credit to Gambian hospitality. I'm really pleased that I booked this hotel and will not hesitate to return.
