Cyprus – Weather

Did you know that the weather in Cyprus is among the hottest in Europe? Summers here are all about long, sunny days, with up to 10 hours of sunshine per day and temperatures rising above 30°C. It’s highly unlikely you’ll see rain at this time of year; December and January are the months that see the highest rainfall. Things tend to cool off in spring and summer but don’t worry, there’s still plenty of sunshine to enjoy and temperatures hover in the low to mid-20s, making this the perfect time of year to explore the island.

Whether you’re heading to the north or south of the island, you’ll find sandy beaches galore and average temperatures of 30°C or more in the peak of summer. Head inland, home to vineyards and mountain ranges, and the Cyprus weather changes; the higher altitude makes this part of the island around 4°C cooler, dropping even lower at the highest points.

If you’re after the warmest weather, the best time to visit is July or August. At this time of year, temperatures climb above 31°C, and you’ll enjoy up to 13 hours of sunshine. If you need to cool off, the sea’s great for water sports and swimming. If the heat gets too much you could always head to the mountains, where it’ll be a little cooler, but still warm and dry.

In winter, the weather in Cyprus remains warm, with temperatures falling to an average of 17°C. You can feel a colder edge from time to time, particularly if the wind’s blowing strongly. Make sure you pack layers if you’re visiting at this time of year.
