Lovely Holiday

Jun 2022 | Explorer547056

Booked this holiday over a year ago, was so excited but then saw a few negative reviews recently so was a bit worried. Here is my honest account from our experience Location: We were really happy with the location. One of the first few stops from the airport so transfer time was really quick. It was lovely to be on the coast too, some fabulous views. It’s around a 30-40 min walk to the harbour along the coastal footpath too, which is fairly flat, so nice to walk to watch the sunset and have a drink. There is a bus stop really close to the hotel to travel around Paphos. It’s €1.50 pp per journey however you do have to change at the harbour to get to the old town and tombs etc. It’s much cheaper to get a day ticket of 5€ pp and then you can hop on and off at different locations as you wish. The drivers are pretty good at telling you when you need to get off for different attractions. Room: We had a lovely room on the 5th floor. We were told the 5th and 6th floor had only been built a few years ago so can’t comment on the older rooms. The room wasn’t massive but perfectly big enough for us. We had a lovely big bed, balcony with sea view and the usual things like TV, fridge and safe. You need to ask for a magnet at reception to activate the safe! The room was clean and cleaned daily with fresh towels and bottled water. The walk in shower was really powerful. There is no iron in the room but apparently there is an ironing service on floor 1. The WIFI in the room was good. The air con was good. The only issue we had was some noisey guests at night. You can hear louder voices and doors so we sometimes were woken up, but it was only really an issue on 1 night. Hotel Facilities: There is daily entertainment in the lobby area, usually 2 sets one early evening, one later. Some were better than others! There is an indoor pool, gym and squash court. There is aqua aerobics each morning around 11am. It’s a bit cheesy but quite a good laugh! The pool area is quite nicely spread out. Never once did we feel like we were crammed in. There are lots of sun loungers around the pool and on the grass area looking out to the sea. Premium bands allow you to reserve sun-loungers but even though we were standard we always found somewhere despite the usual folk who leave their towels there all day!! We never got a lounger by the pool itself as they were either reserved or had a towel on it!!! Towels are available free of charge and you can keep changing them for fresh ones. You just need to ask for a voucher at the start and hand it in with your final towels at the end. There is a pool bar but after about 3pm this was taken over by the “love islanders”. Unfortunately there were big group here for a wedding who caused a few issues so the hotel had to get external security in to ensure they behaved. We heard from other holiday makers they had caused some issues on their first night (the night we were woken!) and had complained to the hotel but they appeared to have been spoken to and did settle down. The reception staff are helpful and generally friendly. The waiting staff are super friendly and like talking to guests. Food: I had read mixed reviews about the food but we didn’t have any issues. There is a huge range of food to meet all requirements and tastes. Yes, there is a lot of the same (especially cold foods like salads) but the hot dishes change every day, and there is certainly enough for you not to be eating the same every day. The breakfasts are great and they even make omelettes to order. The evening has a different theme every evening such as Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Italian. You can also eat at the Greek, Asian and Italian on-site restaurants once for free. We didn’t go to the Asian as there was a lot of sushi which We don’t like, but the others were lovely. It is hard to get into the restaurants and they released tables for the week the weekend before so it’s worth trying to book as soon as you arrive and then keep checking a couple of times a day for released tables for the following week! The food is sometimes not piping hot but I think that depends on what time you go down. You see the staff constantly preparing fresh food to top up dishes, but we found the food cooked thoroughly and felt safe eating it. Overall we had a lovely stay, and would go back if/when we come back to Paphos.

Our 5th and last stay at what was a beautiful hotel

Jun 2022 | 1peteri

We have just returned from our 5th and most likely last stay at this hotel. I want to firstly say that this review is in no way aimed at the wonderful staff that work at this hotel. They are first class and do everything they can to help you. Special mention to Christos who manages the gym and both Emilia and Nectaria both customer relations Managers. These people are a credit to the establishment but unfortunately are governed by the people that own the hotel. Our first visit here was 2016 and the last before this latest visit was 2019 due to Covid. On all occasions we have been very impressed with the quality of the food, but this latest visit sees a significant drop in standard. Poor variety, meat being very poor quality and finding lean mean on these cuts is extremely challenging. The hotel markets itself as ideal for couples and i would say the average age is 40's, yet of an afternoon the DJ starts pumping out his set which changes the whole dynamic and feel of the pool area. Unfortunately, after 7 days into our 10 day stay a wedding party of roughly 40 people made up mainly of mid twenty year old's arrived. The hotel failed to look after the majority of their residence by allowing these people to become very intoxicated, loud, verbally abusive with an undertone of total disregard for other residents. The hotel did not control or manage this situation which spilled over to unpleasant scenes and guests being woken up in the middle of the night. We have made great memories at this hotel over the years and it saddens me that we will not be going back. I would hope that this review is used to reflect and make some changes as to how this previously wonderful hotel is run in the future. Paphos is a wonderful place and the hotel is ideally situated. If you are thinking of booking here and find that you share my view of the food then there are some lovely local restaurants that are quite close and reasonably priced.

Third visit and just as good

Jun 2022 | LesleyandShay

It was great to go back to this lovely beach hotel having not been away for two years. The hotel is just as good, we were disappointed that the 'Garden restaurant' was no longer open as we used to love to have our breakfast there, but there was no problem getting an outside table in the main restaurant. I think for myself , who is a vegetarian, the choice of hot food had improved and I did not have salad every evening as I had previously. The addition of the afternoon snack bar was great too. We were a little disappointed with the Italian restaurant but the Asian restaurant was fabulous. Booking of this was difficult using the touch screen in reception but thanks to Emilia, a member of customer care staff, we did manage to book when we requested. The entertainment was not really to our liking but we were always made really welcome in the Erato nightclub by the Kevin, the resident barman who is great. we will definitely be returning.
