Constantinou Bros Athena Beach Hotel
Athena Beach Hotel boasts a beachfront location on the western coast of Cyprus, close to the old town of Paphos. A wide range of facilities for children make it an ideal choice for families. Parents and those without kids are catered for too with adult-only areas and a fully equipped spa and gym. When you fancy a swim, you’ll be spoiled for choice with three freshwater pools and a further indoor option.
Oasis Splash offers something special for the little ones, consisting of paddling pools, water slides, spray toys and games. Alternatively, they can make new friends while staying dry at the outdoor play area. Those lucky enough to be between 4 and 12 years old can join the kids’ club, offering arts, crafts, puzzles, games, painting and cartoons.
The whole family can enjoy a range of sports onsite including tennis, boccia, shuffleboard, ping pong and bowls. The hotel also runs activity and entertainment programmes for both children and grown ups, so no-one will get bored at Athena Beach Hotel. If you prefer peace and quiet there’s an adult-only poolside terrace and a library. The spa doesn’t just offer a couples suite, a sauna and a steam bath, there are two of each. Relaxing, therapeutic and sports massages are all on the menu here.
For breakfast and dinner there is a choice of four restaurants. The Palm Tree offers sumptuous à la carte dishes and al fresco dining, where you’ll be surrounded by, what else but exotic palm trees. Adults can start the day with a generous helping from the international buffet at Zephyr. In the evening guests who’ve booked half-board can devour a four course meal from the set menu. Leda and Atrium offer Italian and Mediterranean delights that the whole family can enjoy. Light lunches are available from Helios Beach Bar, while meat lovers will relish a midday meal from Adonis.
Three outdoor bars are available in the summer months, one on the beach and poolside family and adult-only options. So wherever you are within the resort, you won’t be far from a cool refreshing drink. The indoor lounge bar is the perfect place to slowly devour a beverage, while admiring the sunset. A more lively end to the day can be sought at Nectar Cocktail Bar with themed nights, dancing and a programme of special events.
Families can take advantage of the interconnecting room options at Athena Beach Hotel. The rooms boast spacious balconies and floor to ceiling windows, offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea or gardens. They are equipped with a safety deposit box, satellite TV, an espresso machine, bathrobes, slippers and a fridge including complimentary mineral water.
There are numerous historical sites to visit in Paphos, so make sure you book a long enough stay to see everything. You could spend the best part of a day exploring the Kato Pafos Archaeological Park, an important ancient Greek and Roman city, which is still being excavated. Here you can see mosaics, as well as the remains of temples and theatres. Christians shouldn’t miss St. Paul’s Pillar, dating from 45AD, located on the site where the apostle attempted to convert Paphos from Paganism to Christianity. Things didn’t go as planned at that time but today there are numerous interesting examples of Byzantine churches in the district. For children who aren’t interested in history or religion, there’s a zoo, as well as a waterpark.
