Can I rent a scooter in Larnaca?

There are many companies offering scooter hire in both Larnaca and the main tourist areas. Safety: wear as much protective clothing as possible (even though it is very hot) and always a fastened helmet (these can usually be hired also). It is illegal to ride without a helmet. The roads in Cyprus are generally well maintained. Please check with the individual hire companies regarding insurance. Most will offer a Collision Damage Waiver at an extra cost.

How much do taxis cost in Larnaca?

Normally the pick up fare for a private taxi in Larnaca is approx 3 Euros and then 1 Euro per kilometre. However there are 2 types of taxis in Cyprus – private taxis which you can flag down in the street or call and have them pick you up from a certain location. There are also line taxis or shared taxis. These run on a pre-arranged schedule during the day, between the main areas and towns. These are cheaper than private taxis. There are no shared taxis running from Larnaca airport. With Cyprus shared taxis, you call to book space on a shared taxi and they will pick you up from where you are. A private taxi from Larnaca airport to Larnaca tourist area will cost approx 30 Euros (to Ayia Napa and Protaras will be approx 50 – 60 Euros). There is also a bus service which connects Larnaca to Paphos, Ayia Napa, Protaras, Limassol and Nicosia and also covers many of the surrounding rural areas.

Should I hire a car to get around Larnaca?

There are many companies offering car hire in both Larnaca and the main tourist areas. It’s very easy to drive in Cyprus as they drive on the same side of the road as the UK and ROI. The roads are excellent, well signposted and most of the signs are in English. Please check with the individual hire companies regarding insurance. Also be aware that most hire cars are not insured to cross the border into the northern part of Cyprus.
