Iberostar Selection Varadero

Iberostar Selection Varadero is steps from the beach on the Cuban peninsula of Hicacos, a narrow spit of land stretching out towards Florida. The peninsula has more than 20km of white, sandy beaches as well as the only golf course in Cuba. The hotel is in a quiet area with a garden and three outdoor pools. At the beach, the hotel offers snorkelling, sailing and kayaking, or you can relax by the palm trees and enjoy a drink from the beach waiter service. There's a spa with a sauna, a Turkish bath and a whirlpool, and you can book a massage or a beauty treatment. For something more energetic, there's a gym and a variety of sports on offer, including aerobics, tennis, football and beach volleyball, along with gentler pursuits such as boules, darts and pool. In the evenings there are family-friendly theatre shows and a nightclub for adults. Varadero beach has fine sand and is popular for diving and snorkelling because of the range of fish, corals and molluscs that can be found just offshore. You can also take a variety of boat trips for fishing, diving or visiting the small, uninhabited islands in the Caribbean to enjoy swimming and a barbecue on the beach.

Iberostar Selection Varadero is 10m from Varadero beach and 6km from Plaza America, a small mall with a range of shops, bars and restaurants. Cuba's golf club is 7km away. The nearest attraction is Cueva de Ambrosio, 500m away, where you can visit a series of historic caves featuring ancient art and rock formations. Cactus Patriarch, a giant tree-size cactus said to be more than 500 years old, is 1.4km away. The capital, Havana, with its colonial architecture and classic cars, is a day trip away, or you could head to Cueva de Saturno for the chance to swim or snorkel in a cave full of stalagmites.

Iberostar Selection Varadero's buffet restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, offering international dishes. There are four a la carte restaurants specialising in Japanese, Mediterranean, seafood and international cuisines, plus a cafe serving sandwiches and desserts. There are eight bars to choose from, including beach and pool bars and a cigar bar.

The hotel provides clubs for children and teenagers. There's also a kids' disco, a playroom, a playground and two separate kids' pools, one with slides.

Rooms have a balcony or terrace, individually controlled air conditioning and a fan. You'll also have a flatscreen TV with satellite channels and a minibar.

First of all, the hotel is beautiful very clean and the services are amazing also the food. But what did catch my attention was the stuff specially Nury. She taught me how to dance salsa and Cuban music also she’s amazing a wonderful brave and hard worker woman very smiling who is very professional who care about the customers happiness, joy and giving everyone a good holiday. Because of this, I would love to come very soon. Thanks a lot to Nury who made my holiday amazing.♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Wonderful Stay here

I had a very good stay at this resort. The room was quite big, clean and very quiet. They have a good variety of restaurants, food and activity you can do during the day. Night shows are also really fun and well performed . What I believe that really made the difference though, it's the Iberostar' employees . They have all been extremely helpful, fun and always with a smile on their faces. I want to give a special thanks to Nury: her dancing classes were really fun and she made such a great job to make everyone feeling comfortable all the time. Very good people skills. I'll go back to the Iberostar Selection Varadero

Excellent resort! But oh..... the bug bites :(

Jan 2022 | Y7563UIcr
This is our 3rd Cuban resort and by far the best for facility, food, staff, beach, cleanliness etc. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and would give 4.5 stars if possible. Some bits: 1. Our major negative was the bugs: biting midges aka sand flies aka ‘no see-ums’. The problem w these is that they bite but the welts don’t appear until days after. We got majorly hit. From the beach? Tennis court? Lounge? Full sun? Shade? Hard to say. We met other guests w the same prob too. We chilled off-beach for several days and still got bit. Saw guests slapping ankles at night in the lounge. Bring insect repellant. We did and had to religiously apply it. Better yet though, bring some sort of anti itch bite cream w hydrocortisone. These bites last longer and burn harder than mosquito bites. We brought AfterBite and it did nada. Bought Polysporin Itch Relief when we got home and.... skin sanity! 2. Staff are just lovely. Dining in our 2 previous resorts, the tip got the service. Grossly so. Here, staff were attentive and thorough w all guests. Kudos in particular to the patient ladies who reminded guests over and over to put their masks on in the dining hall. Total grace! Other staff notables: Lourdes does an awesome room clean in building 10 (room 48), Raime serves up dinner drinks w heart, and Oneisy in spa was lovely and welcoming. 3. PCR test for Canadians: day 1 or 2 go to the Medico, scan a QR code to a site to pre-pay tests, pay online, 3-2 days before you leave queue up to get test. Pick up document one day later. 4. The large central curvy pool is more 'drinks, people and animation'. The rectangular pool en route to gym is quieter. The spa pool for adults is also available, but ranged in noise / social level. 5. Water. The water in your room is in re-fillable glass bottles w paper seals of purity. Bring a water bottle if you want to carry water around. Dining hall also serves water but source? We only drank the sealed water and were fine. 6. Food. We're not gourmet (not KD either) so for mid-level eaters, we were happy-happy. Pizza, pasta, fries, salad, ice cream if that’s your thing. Otherwise seafood, stir fries, paella, roast / pork, smoked salmon, etc. No birds in the dining hall. No flies. No food going cold. Staff serves the buffet and the food is fresh. The coffee / hot chocolate cafe is a superb touch. One other awesome touch: hotdogs and hamburgers are bbq'd after 1 pm in the bar area by the beach. Perfecto! 7. Room. Large, 3 beds!, clean, and everything worked. Bath room was reno’d. Hot water always available. Whoot! 8. Recreation: sea kayaks, bike boards, paddle boats, catamarans on beach. Tennis, futsal and basketball by gym. Ping pong, foosball, pool, at the towel-exchange. Volleyball usually kicked in at 4pm. My kids got social w other teens at ping pong and volleyball. Baseball and futbol (soccer) are huge there. Have gently used baseball equip? Bring it to Hector in the gym. He will know who to share it out with. Futbol club jerseys are also a big love over there. Overall, aside from the bites and itch misery, this resort was excellent.
